Prince William tells friends he will not let Prince Harry return to the royal fold after King’s cancer diagnosis

Prince William will not entertain the idea of Prince Harry returning to the royal fold despite rumors of the latter’s willingness.

That’s according to the Daily Mirror, who say that William has even told close friends that he will look to block any move that sees his younger brother potentially getting involved with royal duties again.

The newspaper says that Prince William remains angered over Harry and Meghan’s repeated attacks on the British monarchy since their exit from royal life. Harry gave an interview with Good Morning America last week in the wake of his father’s cancer diagnosis wherein he talked about loving his family, but his brother is not of the opinion that Harry should be allowed to temporarily help out with official duties.

What’s more, the Mirror cite a source as claiming that William believes Harry and Meghan “cannot be trusted!”, after reports insisted that Harry is ready to return to a temporary role in the royal fold if needs be.

Last week Harry flew to the UK for his first face-to-face meeting with King Charles since the death of Queen Elizabeth in 2022. Though said meeting was brief – a 30 minute affair before Charles traveled by helicopter to Sandringham – the pair are said to have had several “warm exchanges” since Charles’ diagnosis, perhaps hinting that their relationship is more salvageable than previously thought.

Even so, William is reportedly unwilling to forgive his brother’s recent behavior. A source told the Mirror there was “no chance” that Harry could resume the duties he left behind when he moved to the US.

“Whatever has been discussed between William and the King is private, but it is absolutely and categorically clear that he (William) would not allow Harry to return,” they said.

“He thought it was a bad idea at the time and he’s even more clear now. If anyone is going to take on more duties it will be William and that isn’t even on the agenda for now. His main focus is on his father’s health, his family and what is best for the monarchy. There is a zero per cent chance Harry is coming back in any capacity.”

Of course, that doesn’t mean that Harry can’t try to extend an olive branch and potentially help in some capacity as his father fights cancer.

A source close to Harry confirmed: “Harry is ready and willing to help and genuinely believes it would work well for both parties. In his view, it wouldn’t be dissimilar from what was proposed back in 2020, with a hybrid model of working. With the King’s illness there is perhaps more of a reason for those options to be considered.”

Meanwhile, it’s been speculated that Harry wanted more time with his father during his visit to the UK last week, but that King Charles’ aides wouldn’t let him.

New reports claim that Harry landed in London with a willingness to travel to the royal estate of Sandringham, where his father is spending time between his ongoing cancer treatments.

However, those closest to Charles were worried that if they let Harry travel to Sandringham “they would never get rid of him,” as per a The Sun source.

The source added: “Harry came over to see his father, expecting to go to Sandringham. But instead he was asked to be at Clarence House and was restricted to 30 minutes.”

After their brief meeting, Charles departed for Sandringham and Harry found a place to stay for the night in London. The Prince soon returned to the US, but The Sun say his efforts in the UK have not led to a thawing in the icy relations between he and the rest of the Royal Family.
