American rockstar Jesse Malin has been left paralyzed from the waist down after suffering a shock stroke early last month, according to tragic reports.
Metro say the former D Generation vocalist was having dinner in New York City to mark the one-year anniversary of former bandmate and best friend Howie Pyro’s passing, when he began to suffer worrying symptoms.
The 56-year-old is said to have felt a burning pain in his back which made its way down to his hips and heels before he promptly collapsed at the Italian restaurant where he was eating.
Now facing a long road to recovery, Jesse recalled in an interview: “Everybody was standing above me like in Rosemary’s Baby, saying all these different things, and I was there not knowing what was going on with my body.”
After being carried out of the restaurant, Malin was rushed to New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment. Over a month on from the terrifying ordeal, the singer-songwriter told Rolling Stone that he’s yet awaiting answers.
“I’m told that they don’t really understand it, and they’re not sure of the chances.
“The reports from the doctors have been tough, and there’s moments in the day where you want to cry, and where you’re scared.
“But I keep saying to myself that I can make this happen. I can recover my body.”
As per reports, Malin spent two weeks at Mount Sinai before being moved to a rehabilitation center on May 18. At the time of writing, he’s undergoing three rounds of physical therapy and rehabilitation a day.
Though the singer is doing his best to remain upbeat after the “hardest six weeks” of his life, it’s said he will be confined to a wheelchair for the foreseeable future.
Malin has also been forced to cancel his planned summer tour as a result of the stroke.
Here’s to wishing Jesse Malin all the very best with his recovery!
