Scarlett Johansson compares raising a toddler to an ’emotionally abusive relationship’

Raising a toddler isn’t easy. If it was they wouldn’t be called the terrible twos, which can sometimes lead to parenting a threenager.

Scarlett Johansson spoke candidly about being a mother and the difficulties she encountered while raising her daughter, now 8.

“I remember my daughter when she was two, I said, ‘This is great I don’t know what everybody is talking about’, and then she turned three and it’s like being in an emotionally abusive relationship.”

Johansson, who shares a one-year-old son with husband Colin Jost, spoke on a recent episode of The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast about her daughter Rose whom she shares with ex Romain Dauriac.

The 39-year-old actress recalled skipping what many parents refer to as the “terrible twos,” but when Rose turned three everything changed.

She said there was no amount of “reasoning” with her daughter.

Rose would undergo “very intense emotional swings.” Johansson said they seemed “constant.”

“It’s just crazy.”

While she admitted Rose was tough to handle, she couldn’t help but feel for her child.

“Those poor little guys, I feel bad for them, it must be a lot… you’re like up and down constantly.”

Johansson may have her hands full yet again, as her son Cosmo is only one years old, and as she said “so lovely” at his current stage in life.

“They’re so cute. They sit there and they love you and then that’s it and you just get love from them.”
