Everyone deserves a real home and family.
Sadly, some children grow up with neither one of these.
These children are often thrown between foster homes and families, and live with the constant worry of how long it will take before it’s time to move again.
You can only imagine the feeling a kid like that gets the message they have been waiting for their entire life — that two wonderful parents want to adopt them.
That’s exactly what happened to Tannah Butterfield — and the touching moment the little girl gets the news was caught on camera.
This clip and images are now, understandably, spreading all over the internet.
The long adoption process
Tannah Butterfield, an 11-year-old girl from South Jordan, Utah, has been living with her current foster family for the last two years.
The foster parents have for the longest time tried to to adopt Tannah, but each time a new obstacle would appear, only prolonging the overall process.
The situation has been especially tough for young Tannah, who has been so happy in her last home and wants more than anything to stay. Everyday, she has been worried if she would get to permanently stay or if she would be forced to move again.
The light at the end of the tunnel
But one day last week, while Tannah was in school, everything changed.
The school’s principal Jackie Alexander, who is not only well informed about Tannah’s situation, but also shares a strong bond with the girl, received a special call from Tannah’s foster mother.
The judge had finally approved their adoption application and the foster mom asked Jackie to tell the 11-year-old the good news.
An unforgettable moment
As soon as Tannah walked into the principal’s office, Jackie broke the news.
The moment the little girl realized what was happening is priceless and luckily the school’s surveillance cameras managed to capture it.
“Our security cameras caught the moment perfectly. I cry as I type this,” the principal writes in her Instagram post. “In 12 years at this job, this is by far my best moment ever!! To tell a little girl that she gets her family forever takes the cake.”
It’s hard not to be moved by the images.
Tannah’s reaction to the life changing news is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. The way she jumps into the arms of Jackie is just heartwarming.
“I can’t even describe that hug,” Jackie continues saying. “And thank heavens her mom doesn’t mind that I kissed her a million times, and a million more after the film cuts off.”
Spread the love
In a time where it feels that all we hear are negative stories in the news, it’s refreshing to hear story like this one. Principal Jackie agrees.
“A moment needed after waking up to another morning of devastating news on t.v,” Jackie writes. “But a sweet reminder today that life can be and still is beautiful in spite of it all. ”

*I give permission to all media outlets to use this video and post with credit to: Jackie Alexander (and American Heritage of South Jordan) Thank you* Some Mondays are better than others. I share this with permission from the parent of this student. This is pure testament that in a world full of turmoil and strife, there is still light and joy to be found in little everyday moments. A dear family I know has been fighting for as long as I can remember to adopt 3 of their foster children that attend our school. It's been hard to watch them fight this emotional battle. My love has grown for this family and I have learned so much from them as they have tried to remain positive despite many set backs. Today my phone rang at my desk and it was my friend Jen telling me things FINALLY had come to an end and the courts were going to let them ADOPT the children!! She asked me if I would be sure to tell her sweet girl when she came to my desk for her daily visit. She knew she would want to know right away because she had been so worried. I don't think even I could understand myself what that moment would feel like. Our security cameras caught the moment perfectly. I cry as I type this. In 12 years at this job, this is by far my best moment ever!! To tell a little girl that she gets her family forever takes the cake. I can't even describe that hug…and thank heavens her mom doesn't mind that I kissed her a million times, and a million more after the film cuts off.
