TV host and music mogul Simon Cowell suffered a broken back in an electric bicycle accident in California at the weekend, according to reports.
A spokeswoman for the 60-year-old told The Guardian newspaper: “Simon had a fall from his bike, testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family. He hurt his back and was taken to hospital.”
The latest news is that Cowell is “doing fine” and remains under observation in hospital after a six-hour surgery on Saturday that included the placement of a metal rod.
BBC say that Cowell’s wife Lauren was present at the time of the accident, as was the couple’s young son Eric.
Cowell himself issued a tweet earlier today to reassure fans that he was recovering well and thank them for their messages.
“Some good advice… If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time,” he tweeted.
He thanked fans and friends for their “kind messages” and exhorted them all to “stay safe”.
As per Cowell’s spokeswoman, the America’s Got Talent judge broke his back “in a number of places”.
Here’s to wishing Simon all the very best with his recovery. It’s sad to hear of such a terrible accident.
