Don’t you just love those game shows that leave you screaming at the TV when contestants make a wrong move?
Well, I do. Of course, it’s easy to be a so-called ‘armchair expert’ while I’m sitting at home in my…ahem, armchair, and a whole lot harder when you’re in a studio being watched by a live audience and taped for a program that will later be seen by millions.
That is to say that I sympathize with those game show contestants who make a mistake when the spotlight is on them. Just last night I was watching Wheel of Fortune, when a competitor named Rasheda errored in a way that will surely have left her wanting the earth to swallow her whole.
As I said, it’s easy to sit there and laugh and not even be able to imagine a scenario wherein I’d make the same mistake, but the truth is that when the pressure’s really on, none of us know what gaffes we might be capable of producing.
In the episode in question, Rasheda had opted to solve a world puzzle on the board in the category ‘showbiz’. For those unfamiliar with Wheel of Fortune, this entails being given a sentence riddled with missing letters. Letters that the contestant has to guess in order to give the correct answer.
Sounds simple enough, right? And truthfully the premise is simple. And yet therein lies the entertainment value: it’s one of those things that’s rarely as simple as it sounds.
Rasheda’s sentence was ‘_ _ _ _ A _ _ _. _ ORDAN STARS _ N _ R _ _ D.’
If you’ve not yet seen the episode in question and plan on doing so, you might want to stop reading now. For those of you unable to work it out, though, the correct answer is ‘Michael B. Jordan stars in Creed’.
Sadly, Rasheda made a simple mistake that cost her the question, answering “Michael P. Jordan’ instead of ‘Michael B. Jordan’. The error was enough to prompt a frenzy of comments online, with social media users seemingly left in disbelief.
“I know this lady on Wheel Of Fortune didn’t just say ‘Michael P. Jordan Stars In Creed.’ I am devastated for her,” one person wrote.
“MICHAEL P JORDAN?!? HOW DO YOU F**K THAT UP?!?” raged another.
A third commented: “This lady just said Michael P. Jordan…”
Jordan – of no relation to legendary basketball star Michael Jordan – is an established name in Hollywood these days, having held roles in such films as Black Panther and, of course, Creed.
