Comedian Marlon Wayans shares the ‘very painful’ path to ‘unconditional love’ for his transgender son

When our children are born we promise to love them forever no matter what. Unfortunately, many can attest that for various reasons, that’s not always the case.

Comedian Marlon Wayans made that promise to his children, and while he admitted it’s been difficult recently, he still has “unconditional love” for his son Kai.

On November 12, Wayans, 51, shared a photo of himself with his family. In the photo is Kai Wayans, who he shares with his former wife Angelica Zachary.

Kai, Wayans’ 23-year-old son, was assigned female at birth.

Several days earlier the actor and comedian, best known for his series The Wayans Bros. and White Chicks, opened up about his transition as a parent, “going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance.”

“I think there’s a lot of parents out there that need that message, and I know I’m dealing with it.”

Wayans shared with “The Breakfast Club” he plans to film a comedy special about the “very painful situation” he experienced in terms of with Kai’s gender identity.

“As a parent, I just want my kids to be free. I want them to be free in spirit, free in thought, free to be themselves … The more you live your truth, the happier your existence,” he said.

“And I’m just so proud of them for being them.”

There shouldn’t be any conditions when it comes to loving our children, especially when things get tough.
