Brian Austin Green says 4-year battle with mysterious stroke-like symptoms linked to diet

Brian Austin Green is reflecting on a four-year battle health battle that he says was caused by the food he ate.

“I’d spent four and a half years recovering from stroke-like symptoms without ever having had a stroke but I couldn’t speak,” Green explained to Cheryl Burke on her Sex, Likes and Spray Tans podcast.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum said none of his specialists could figure out the cause of his symptoms, leaving him to battle a mysterious illness for four years.

Green, 50, told Burke he had been diagnosed with vertigo and ulcerative colitis, which caused him to become bedridden for three months.

Despite the diagnoses, none of his doctors were able to get to the root cause.

“Then these neurological things started happening after the vertigo, and that was — it was four and a half years of my life. I got to the point where I shuffled like I was a 90-year-old man,” Green said.

The actor was unable to perform many simple tasks like reading and writing, and no one had an explanation as to why.

Hundreds of blood tests, two MRIs, and consultations with countless specialists at the country’s top hospitals left Green without an answer and still struggling with day to day activities.

“I had such brain fog that I reintroduced my best friend of like 25 plus years to my sister who he had also known for 25 plus years,” he explained.

Reading Dr. Seuss books to his children also proved to be extremely difficult.

It wasn’t until Green found a new doctor, one who studied Eastern medicine, that he was able to take the first steps towards recovery.

His new doctor informed him the reason for his mysterious symptoms was related to “internal inflammation from gluten and diary.” Green found it odd, especially since he spent his entire life eating both.

Now, in addition to keeping up with his workout regime, the father of five tries his best to avoid gluten and diary.

“It’s really just dietary, like, as long as I can keep things within my system that my body doesn’t think I’m poisoning it with, then it doesn’t fight back.”
