For the last few months, the bushfires in Australia have caused untold devastation, burning through more than three million hectares of land.
Thousands of homes have been destroyed and the animal populations have been ravaged.
Unfortunately, Australia continues to suffer from catastrophic bushfires spreading across millions of acres, according to The Guardian.
But while dozens of fires still tear across this tormented country, pictures from Australia show that the country is finally beginning to rise from its ashes. Evidenced in many places, life is on its way back – proving once again nature’s amazing ability to survive.
Green shoots can already be seen among the black scorched earth and some plants have even take advantage of the nutrients in the ash. These plants are called Pyrophytic plants, which means that they’re adapted to withstand frequent fires – many species in the Australian bush have evolved to be fire-tolerant.
For example, the Eucalyptus contain serotinous cones or fruits that are completely sealed with resin. These cones/fruits must be exposed to the heat of a fire in order to release their seeds, according to Encyclopedia Britannica.
But even though this process is normal and fully natural, it is far from certain that Australia’s plants will recover fully. The worst fires in the country’s history have destroyed so much that it is difficult to say how adaptable nature will be. But some of these beautiful pictures below give us hope that nature is going to endure!
