In 1990, after 32 years of teaching behind him he decided to retire from academia and pursue his other passion; performing.

He also appeared in television shows like Higher Education, Drop Dead Diva, Devious Maids and also the TV adaptation of In the Heat of the Night. His last acting credit was a recurring role on the television series Still the King in 2016.

He passed away on Christmas Day in Huntsville, Alabama at the age of 87 years old. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy both in academia and also on the big screen.

Bob Penny is wonderful proof that it is never too late to pursue another career in your life. He took up his acting career after retiring from his first career in academia!

Penny is survived by his brother, his sister, six nieces, and a nephew.
