Chain apparel store with locations throughout New England confirms store closures

Another day, another victim of the economy to report.

This time, Bob’s Stores, an apparel and footwear store with locations in several states across New England, has announced it will cease operations on July 14.

The retailer, which at one point operated a modest number of locations throughout the Northeast, announced Monday that all remaining Bob’s locations would close and all inventory would be liquidated.

The news follows a chapter 11 bankruptcy announcement made in June.

According to the retailer, liquidation sales have already begun and will run through the business’ close on July 14. Customers can expect to see discounts ranging from 30 to 70 percent off.

“We regret that our financial position necessitated the liquidation of Bob’s Stores. Bob’s has been a stalwart of our local communities for nearly 70 years, and we know our customers remember us as having been there for major moments in their lives,” President of Bob’s Stores Dave Barton said in a statement.

Bob’s Stores, which was founded in 1954, had locations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.

It’s a shame when a retailer that has been in business for so many years has to go out of business. If so many larger businesses are impacted by the state of the economy, I can only imagine what it’s doing to the small mom and pop stores.
