As Lindsay Clancy stands trial over the deaths of her three children, new court documents reveal the chilling words the Massachusetts mother allegedly uttered as she killed them.
Prosecutors allege Clancy deliberately killed 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan on Jan. 24, 2023.
Patrick Clancy had left the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, to make a quick trip to grab some takeout and medicine for the couple’s 5-year-old daughter, Cora.
When he returned home around 6 p.m., he noticed the house was unusually quiet. As he made his way to the bedroom, he discovered the door was locked. After forcing his way inside, he found a bloody knife resting on the nightstand and saw that the second-story bedroom window was open.
He raced outside, where he found Lindsay lying injured on the ground below the window, with cuts to her neck and wrists.
Claims she was experiencing postpartum psychosis
Her defense does not dispute that she caused the children’s deaths but argues she was experiencing severe postpartum psychosis after months of deteriorating mental health and extensive psychiatric treatment, leaving her not criminally responsible for her actions. Lindsay survived after jumping from the bedroom window but was left paralyzed by her injuries.
According to documents filed in a civil lawsuit against several medical practitioners, Clancy believed she was sending her children “to God.” Separate from the criminal proceedings, Clancy and her ex-husband, Patrick, have also filed separate civil lawsuits against medical professionals who treated Clancy before the deaths of their children.
Clancy claims she was experiencing auditory hallucinations, and according to documents obtained by CourtTV, the voices allegedly instructed her to kill her children.
“My body started acting without any control on my part. I was just following commands, ‘all action.’ This voice demanded action,” Clancy said, according to LADbible.
Lindsay Clancy trial
She claimed to have entered a ‘dream-like state’, and heard a voice saying it was the ‘last chance’ to kill the children and herself, according to a separate report from The Sun.
While she strangled the three kids, Clancy says she uttered the words, “Go to God, baby.”
If Clancy is convicted of killing her children, she could be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. If she is found not criminally responsible, she would instead be committed to a psychiatric hospital.
The trial is ongoing.
