Donald Trump criticized after showing kids photo at Easter event

People are shocked that the wholesome egg roll turned gory after President Donald Trump showed a horrifying card to some innocent children who were hunting for Easter eggs through the gardens of the White House.

Each year, the White House Easter Egg Roll is a cheerful springtime tradition where thousands of children gather on the South Lawn for egg hunts, games, and a chance to meet the President.

The event is more than just a festive spring celebration – it’s a piece of American history that stretches back nearly 150 years.

“Informal festivities began with egg-rolling parties under President Abraham Lincoln,” writes the White House, but the tradition officially started in 1878 under President Rutherford B. Hayes. Hayes, the 19th President, invited children to roll their Easter eggs on the White House South Lawn after Congress passed a law prohibiting the activity on Capitol Hill due to damage to the grounds.

This launched one of the nation’s most cherished presidential traditions.

Egg hunt takes a strange turn

Today, the White House Easter Egg Roll remains a joyful, family-friendly tradition that blends history, politics, and springtime fun – all on the iconic lawn of the President’s residence.

This year, CBS News reports that nearly 30,000 real eggs were placed across the lawn for the April 21 celebration.

Despite the bizarre nature of using real eggs when egg prices are at a record high, something even stranger happened.

As former President Donald Trump greeted children during the event, a photograph captured a chilling detail that shocked the internet – and reignited debate about the Republican icon’s judgment.

Gory image

While many expected egg-filled baskets and bunny ears, the 78-year-old President – a grandfather to 10 – pulled out a custom trading card, beaming as he showed the little ones the gory image.

But unlike baseball stats or inspirational quotes, this card depicted a snapshot from one of the most terrifying days in recent political history.

Assassination attempt

On July 13, 2023, during a campaign rally, a gunman named Thomas Matthew Crooks fired at Trump from a rooftop in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump narrowly escaped death, with bullets striking mere inches from vital organs.

Though Trump survived and went on to reclaim the presidency, the event was not without tragedy. Corey Comperatore, a devoted father of two and volunteer fire chief, was fatally struck while shielding others in the crowd. The attempted assassin, 20, was also killed.

The moment was harrowing, etched into the nation’s memory – and, apparently, into a collector’s card that Trump was proud to share.

‘His brain needs to be studied’

Eagle-eyed Reddit users identified the graphic memento, immediately expressing their shock over the president showing the alarming image to impressionable young children.

“Forget about chocolate and bunnies, let’s talk about that time somebody tried to shoot me dead. For a father of five and grandfather of [I don’t know] how many, you’d think he’d have some idea of what is child friendly,” writes one Redditor in the fiery discussion that includes a photo of Trump holding the card so kids could see.

A second shares, “’Hey kids, check out this photo of me with blood coming out of my ear! Two people died in this attempt to kill me, including the assassin. Anyhow Happy Easter!’

Totally normal interaction with Elementary School aged children. ‘Here’s a pretend baseball card of my bloody face. Cool, huh?’”

“His brain needs to be studied. A scientific case of what happens when everything goes wrong,” offers a third.

“Personally, i like Cadbury Cream Eggs, but assassination attempt trading cards are a close 37th on the list of Easter things I enjoy,” shares a fourth online user. Another adds, “Anyone who allows their children near that man should have their kids taken away. He’s 1000x worse than your weird uncle.”

‘They got Jesus’

Another netizen suggests that Trump was using the card to illustrate that he, unlike Jesus, could not be crucified.

“I can already hear him,” the Redditor starts. “‘They got Jesus. They got him because he was a weak illegal immigrant sent to the Nazareth region of Earth by crooked Joe Biden and the radical left. They tried to get me but they couldn’t.’”

Responding to the post, another writes, “I believe it’s about gullible people believing someone survived an assassination attempt. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the three days of peace and quiet this time.”

The image of Donald Trump showing kids a card depicting one of the most traumatic moments in recent political memory has sparked a fierce debate. We’d love to hear your thoughts on what happened on the lawn of the White House!
