Donald Trump has issued a warning to Iran, threatening to completely destroy the world’s largest gasfield if they continue to do this one thing.
The warning comes as tensions in the Middle East escalate rapidly, with key energy infrastructure already caught in the crossfire. Following a strike on Iran’s South Pars gasfield, the first of its kind since the conflict began, the situation has intensified.
Iran responded by targeting sites in neighbouring countries, including facilities in Qatar, where the massive liquefied natural gas hub at Ras Laffan reportedly suffered “extensive damage,” according to QatarEnergy.
That retaliation appears to have pushed Trump to draw a hard line, according to VT:
In a statement, he reportedly warned: “The United States of America, with or without the help or consent of Israel, will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before.”
Claims the US “knew nothing”
The South Pars site, shared between Iran and Qatar, is considered an “extremely important and valuable” part of Iran’s economy, according to VT, making the threat particularly significant.
Despite the severity of Trumps warning, he has also attempted to distance the US from the initial strike. He claimed on social media that the US “knew nothing” about Israel’s attack on the gasfield, although reports have suggested otherwise.
He also insisted that Qatar had no involvement whatsoever, stating it was “in no way, shape, or form, involved with it [the attack], nor did it have any idea that it was going to happen,” according to VT.
Meanwhile, Qatar has strongly condemned the situation, with a spokesperson describing the Israeli strike as “dangerous” and “irresponsible”.
The broader conflict has been building for weeks. Now, with Iran launching further attacks across the region and energy prices surging, Trump is demanding an immediate stop. He has claimed the conflict could end “very soon,” but with threats to completely destroy critical infrastructure on the table, a resolution does not appear imminent.
