Donald Trump is preparing to celebrate a major milestone, but the president admits it’s one he’s not particularly excited about.
Donald Trump turns 80 on June 14, making him one of the oldest presidents in U.S. history. While many people might welcome such a landmark birthday, Trump recently made it clear that he’s not thrilled about the number attached to the occasion.
Speaking with Dr. Mehmet Oz in the Oval Office just days before his birthday, Trump shared his thoughts on reaching the milestone.
“You don’t have to wish me happy birthday because I’m not happy about that birthday that I’m having,” Trump said.
He added:
“That’s a number that I never thought really too much about. It’s not a number I like, but I’m here, nevertheless.”
What Trump wants for his birthday
Despite his feelings about turning 80, Trump was recently asked what he would like as a birthday gift.
During an Oval Office appearance on June 10, a reporter asked the president what he wanted for his birthday besides peace in the Middle East.
Trump’s answer went even further.
“Well, I’ll go a step bigger… peace for the world, OK?”
He continued:
“Peace for the world. Middle East? Yes. Peace for the whole world.”
The comment quickly drew attention as tensions continue in several regions around the globe.
This isn’t the first time Trump has spoken about his hopes for global peace either.
Earlier this year, during a New Year’s Eve event at Mar-a-Lago, he was asked whether he had a New Year’s resolution.
His answer was brief and direct.
“Peace. Peace on Earth.”
Trump’s wish has raised more than a couple of eyebrows.
“He couldn’t even point out the world on a map,” one commenter on X jokes.
“Says a man who solve everything with violence and wars,” another adds.
“Saying that while being one of the most evil humans in existence is crazy,” a third writes.
Trump celebrating birthday in unusual way
Trump’s birthday celebrations on the other hand are expected to be anything but traditional.
The president is set to mark the occasion while attending a major combat sports event on the White House South Lawn, an unusual backdrop for an 80th birthday celebration.
The event is also being promoted as part of activities connected to the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence.
