Former TV host charged with mom’s murder

Angelynn Mock, a 47-year-old woman who previously worked as a TV anchor, was arrested on Friday in connection with the stabbing death of her elderly mother.

According to the Daily Mail, Mock, who anchored local St. Louis station Fox 2 around a decade ago, was apprehended by police and taken into custody in Wichita, Kansas after her mother, Anita Avers, aged 80, was found in bed having sustained multiple stab wounds.

Anita was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Wichita Police Department told the Mail that they had responded to Mock’s home at around 8 a.m. and found Mock outside the property while her mother was lying inside bleeding.

One neighbor, Alyssa Castro, told KAKE that she was driving by when she noticed Mock covered in blood. Castro added that Mock had approached her and her boyfriend to ask for help. After Castro’s boyfriend allowed Mock to his cellphone, though, she ran off with it.

“There was a woman who approached our vehicle with like blood, like her hands were filled, her body was filled with blood, asking to call 911,” Castro said.

As per the Mail, Castro said she had tried to assist Mock as much as she could after the authorities had been called.

“I asked her if she was okay, and she was pretty shooken (sic) up and she seemed scared, and she just ran off,” she said.

Mock, a once-glamorous journalist, worked for Fox 2 as an anchor and reporter from March 2011 to February of 2015, according to her LinkedIn page.

After being arrested she was also transported to the hospital and treated for an injury, though it wasn’t specified what that injury was. The 47-year-old was thereafter booked on a charge of first-degree murder.

Avers’ husband told KAKE that she was a marriage and family therapist at Wichita Counseling Professionals.

According to the Mail, images on social media paint a nice picture of the mom and daughter. Avers’ Facebook profile picture is said to be an image of Mock reporting at a baseball game.

A second image shows the pair hugging and smiling.

Mock was booked into Sedgwick County Jail where she is being held on a $1 million bond.

Rest in peace, Anita Avers.
