For years, Greta Thunberg has been a strong voice for the climate, making headlines and entering rooms filled with the world’s leading politicians. More recently, she has also become involved in the conflict between Israel and Palestine, showing her support for the latter.
But something that many may not know is that Greta has a little sister named Beata Thunberg known more popularly as Beata Ernman. Several years ago, Greta shared how her sister Beata also received hate because of Greta’s commitment, “All these haters don’t just target me, they target her. It’s hard when your sister is feeling bad,” she said in an interview with Expressen in 2019.

Since then, time has passed, and today Beata is 19 years old. She, just like her mother Malena Ernman , has chosen to follow the path of music; as a singer. This week she released the single “I Found Your Father’s Gun.” This is what she said about the song on her Instagram, “My song: “I Found Your Father’s Gun”, is
a metaphor about an older man, who talks about girl’s bodies like they belong to him.”
She went on in her explanation, “So I flipped the script. When I say ”I found your father’s gun,” It’s a metaphor about the man who made him.. gun- his 1 body part.. — I could have even him, if I wanted to. I didn’t. That’s not the point. The point is: when people objectify girls, they reduce us to body parts — They treat us like multiple girls add up to one man. So in this song, I use their own language against them. I objectify him by sexualizing his father, to expose the absurdity, the cruelty, and the double standard, associating him with another man, to flip it, as if 10 men were treated like 1 girl. Beneath the metaphor is something real: Men need to stop taking advantage of girls who are too young to fight back. This song is what it sounds like when we do. When the object speaks. Twice as brutal as the offense itself, right? Right.”
Beata has previously played Edit Piaf in the musical “Forever Piaf”, performed on television, appeared in Allsång på Skansen and attracted international attention for her music. She has also appeared in commercials and worked as a bikini model.
Making headlines abroad
In recent days, she has been making international headlines. The British Daily Mail and Mirror, as well as the American The Sun, have reported on her.
“Dressed in red fishnet stockings and a corset, she was the picture of confidence as she performed a sexy routine for the cameras, even doing the splits to show off her prowess as a dancer,” the Daily Mail wrote about the younger sister of Greta Thunberg.
Regarding her relationship with her older sister Greta, Beata has previously participated in demonstrations with her. In 2019, Malena Ernman published a post on Facebook where she, according to Aftonbladet , wrote:
“Our family has written a book together about the climate that is about Greta and her sister Beata and how they have aroused our commitment to, among other things, the climate issue.”
“We are of course extremely proud of our daughters Beata and Greta. They are two very brave girls. I wish I had been as wise and strong as them when I was their age. Or even now,” she told Aftonbladet.
The sister has not commented on the drama of recent days, where Greta Thunberg was stopped and forcibly detained by Israeli forces. Greta was on her way to Gaza with emergency aid for the population, but did not arrive with the ship Madleen. She is now back in Sweden.
