The bodyguard initially believed to be part of Chappell Roan’s security team has broken his silence after being accused of making Catherine Harding and Jude Law’s 11-year-old daughter cry during an incident at a hotel.
Brazilian-Italian soccer star Jorge “Jorginho” Frello has accused a security guard of mistreating his 11-year-old stepdaughter during an encounter with singer Chappell Roan at a hotel in Brazil.
The child, Ada, is the daughter of Frello’s wife Catherine Harding and British actor Jude Law, who were no longer in a relationship when she was born on March 15, 2015.
For her birthday, Ada had asked her parents for tickets to see Roan perform at the Lollapalooza Brazil music festival – and then the child was surprised when she learned her family was staying at the same São Paulo hotel as the Grammy-winning artist.
But things took a turn.
Ada spots Roan at breakfast
“I went through a very upsetting situation with my family earlier today,” 34-year-old Frello wrote in an Instagram story, per People.
“This morning, my daughter woke up incredibly excited. She even made a sign because she was so happy to see an artist she really admires, or used to admire,” the soccer star shared of the 28-year-old singer.
“During breakfast, the artist walked past their table. My daughter, like any child, recognised her, got excited, and just wanted to make sure it was really her.”
‘Extremely aggressive’ guard
“And the worst part is she didn’t even approach her,” Frello wrote in the March 21 post. “She simply walked past the singer’s table, looked to confirm it was her, smiled, and went back to sit with her mum.”
“She didn’t say anything, didn’t ask for anything,” Frello continued, adding that a security guard then approached the family’s table and spoke “in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and my daughter” while accusing the child of disrespecting and harassing the singer.
According to the Flamengo player, his daughter was “extremely shaken,” and “sitting there in tears.”
“I sincerely hope this serves as a moment of reflection. No one should have to go through this, especially not a child,” he said, tagging Roan with the added message: “WITHOUT YOUR FANS, YOU WOULD BE NOTHING. AND TO THE FANS, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION.”
‘Not my personal security’
Following the public claims, Roan addressed the situation with a message on Instagram, clarifying that the individual involved was not part of her personal team.
“That was not my personal security,” the “Pink Pony Club” singer said.
“I didn’t even see a woman and a child. Like, I did not. No one came up to me, no one bothered me,” Roan explained. “Like, I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel. I think these people were staying at the hotel as well.”
‘I do not hate children’
Roan – known for setting strict boundaries with fans – also stated clearly that she had no involvement in directing the interaction.
“I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. I did not.”
“They did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything,” the 28-year-old singer added. “It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe, because there’s no action even taken.”
In a separate post, Roan addressed the broader reaction.
“I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. Like, that is crazy.”
“I’m sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something…If you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.”
Security guard takes ‘full responsibility’
The security guard involved, Pascal Duvier, later addressed the controversy publicly, clarifying that he was not working directly for Roan.
“I take full responsibility for the interactions on March 21st,” Duvier, who previously worked as Kim Kardashian’s head of security, wrote on Instagram.
“I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual, and I was not part of the personal security team of Chappell Roan. The actions I took were not on behalf of Chappell Roan, her personal security team, her management, or any other individuals.”
Duvier – a very large and intimidating man – said his decision was influenced by security concerns at the location.
“I made a judgment call based on information we obtained from the hotel, events I had witnessed in the days prior and the heightened overall security risk of our location.”
“My sole interaction with the mother was calm and with good intentions,” he claimed, adding “the outcome of the encounter is regretful.”
