Iran has outlined its conditions to end the war after rejecting the 15-point peace plan put forward by Donald Trump.
On Monday, Trump said “very good and productive” conversations with Iran had taken place, adding that the U.S. Department of Defense would “postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure.”
Iran later denied those claims.
Speaking in Memphis, Trump said the conversations had begun in the days prior. “They started last night, a little bit, the night before that. I think they’re very good. They want peace. They have agreed they won’t have a nuclear weapon. But we’ll see,” he said, according to LADBible.
However, Iran’s state news agency Fars reported that no contact had taken place, while Parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said there had been “no negotiations.”
Trump also warned that Iran had “one more opportunity to end its threats to America and our allies,” adding that the U.S. “mean[s] business.”
“Informed officials in Iran announced that there were no negotiations and emphasized that until the U.S. completely withdrew, evacuated its bases in the region, paid compensation, and received valid guarantees not to repeat the aggression, neither would the war end nor would the Strait of Hormuz be reopened,” Fars reiterated in a message on Telegram.
Rejected Trump’s peace plan
Both sides continue to offer conflicting accounts of recent developments and any potential peace efforts. According to CBS News, Iran has rejected the 15-point peace plan put forward by Trump.
Iran has reportedly accused Trump of “negotiating with himself.” The U.S. proposal is said to include conditions such as a 30-day ceasefire, reopening the Strait of Hormuz for shipping, limits on Iran’s missile program, and halting support for certain groups including Hezbollah and Hamas.
Those terms now appear to have been rejected by Iran, which has instead outlined its own conditions for peace. Speaking to Press TV, a senior Iranian official presented five demands.
Iran’s conditions to end the war
He called for a complete halt to what he described as “aggression and assassinations” by “the enemy,” along with “the establishment of concrete mechanisms to ensure that the war is not reimposed on the Islamic Republic.”
Iran also requested financial guarantees to ensure compensation for damage caused during the conflict. Ending the fighting on all fronts, including among all resistance groups involved, was another key demand. Finally, he said Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz “must be recognized.”
According to reports, the official said Tehran would continue to “inflict heavy blows” until its demands are met, and that only once Iran’s conditions are accepted would a ceasefire be possible.
“No negotiations will be held prior to that,” the official stressed, adding that the continuation of Iran’s defensive operations will persist until those conditions are fulfilled, according to Press TV:
“The end of the war will occur when Iran decides it should end, not when Trump envisions its conclusion.”
