Jack and Kristina Wagner suffered a massive heartbreak last year when they lost their 27-year-old son Harrison Wagner to a suspected drug overdose. Now a year after his death, the bereaved parents are paying homage to their late son.
Both parents took to Instagram to remember their son. Jack Wagner posted a photo of his son when he was younger. The little boy in the image is about to roast a sausage link and is overlooking a campfire.
Jack captioned the photo simply, “My youngest, so pure, so perfect.” He further added, “I love you Harrison, I miss you Harrison. My Heart goes out to parents who have lost a child. There are No Words So we cry And Celebrate Harrison Hale Wagner 12/1/94-6/6/22?.”
While Kristina posted a video of her late son, one which she said provided her with some comfort. “We shot this video on Araby Trail and here I am posting it on the first anniversary of Harrison’s death,” she explained in the caption of her post.
“His words are comforting to me. It’s brutally painful to [lose] my boy. I still believe in open mindedness, happiness, and love and I still have hope for wishes come true. Thank you Harrison.”
In the video, her late son can be seen shirtless as he grabs a rock, makes a wish, and then launches it. He says some poignant words that perhaps hint at his own struggles at the time.
In the video, he can be heard saying, “I know everybody’s got pain and struggles in life. That’s why we get out of ourselves, and whatever our God is. Whatever our belief is outside of ourself, we wish for an amazing life, open mindedness, happiness and love. Let’s make a wish.”
Harrison was found dead in a parking lot in Los Angeles on June 6, 2022. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner listed his death as ‘accidental’ and attributed it to fentanyl and alprazolam, which is the generic term for Xanax. The report came out after four days of what would have been the young man’s 28th birthday.
After his death, the Wagner family released a statement that suggested that Harrison had died from a drug overdose. The couple launched the Harrison Wagner Scholarship Fund to help other young men who are struggling with substance abuse problems.
On the website, they have explained their mission fueled by their grief. “Harrison was a bright, exuberant young man whose smile lit up any room he was in. He has left behind many men and family members who loved him deeply,” the statement on the website reads. “We are heartbroken that he ultimately lost his battle with addiction and we hope that Harrison’s memory will live on through this scholarship and will help other young men get help for their addiction that would not otherwise be able to afford it.”
The funds help young men pay their rent or a portion of their rent for New Life House, a recovery community.
The Wagners skipped the 49th annual Daytime Emmy Awards which were held in the same month they lost their son. The couples’ General Hospital castmates were also heartbroken for their loss and shared that they were supporting them in every way that they could!
Kelly Monaco, who plays Sam McCall on the longtime running soap said she knew exactly what the couple were going through since she had been through a similar situation in 2021.
“I had a similar experience in November with my best friend and the GH cast was amazing,” Monaco said about the incident. “It’s a family, and the same grace has been extended to Kristina and Jack. I have chills talking about it. My heart goes out to them because I know exactly what they’re feeling. It’s tragic. And I hope more people are aware of the epidemic that’s going — that’s been going on — for decades.”
