John Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s reveal six-year-old son’s diagnosis

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are one of America’s most beloved celebrity couples. The two of them share four children together and have been known to be very open and honest about their parenting journey.

Recently, they revealed something quite major that no one was expecting. Keep reading to learn more.

Teigen shared some news with her followers after people noticed Mile’s monitor attached to his arm in photos while the family was at the 2024 Paris Olympics. After people started asking what that monitor meant, she wanted to clear the air.

“A lot of you noticed something a little special about a photo I posted a few days ago,” she wrote in a picture of her, Miles and Luna as they held up sign to support USA’s star gymnast Simone Biles. “Luna, Miles and I celebrating Simone and team USA. Miles had his arm up, soooo many of you reached out to say the most beautiful and incredible words I have ever witnessed on this platform.”

The model, who shares Miles with her husband, singer John Legend, revealed to her followers that her six-year-old was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

She went on, “You noticed his type -1 diabetes monitor and extended so much love and encouragement in every way possible. I was and am, so blown away by the kindness of this community already.  I know. Things could be so much worse!! So many parents around the world are going through unfathomable things that I could never imagine. I tell myself this every time we get a red alert blasted to our phones. And we are so blessed to have so much help and wonderful, kind, huge-hearted specialist.”

According to the online resources, “Type 1 diabetes, once known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a chronic condition. In this condition, the pancreas makes little or no insulin. Insulin is a hormone the body uses to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy. Different factors, such as genetics and some viruses, may cause type 1 diabetes. Although type 1 diabetes usually appears during childhood or adolescence, it can develop in adults. Even after a lot of research, type 1 diabetes has no cure.”

Teigen explained that Miles was diagnosed after he had suffered from shigella at camp. While the six-year-old has caught the same illness as the other children, his doctor noticed there was a difference in his blood work and decided to probe further.

“A lot of his friends were also sick with it, as they all went to the same camp and well, it happens,” she explained. “But the doctors knew something else was off about his blood tests. I’ve learned since then that this is how so many young children end up being diagnosed with type-1 going to the hospital for something different. After more testing, we learned he is in the ‘honeymoon period’ of a lifetime of T1. Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin and here we go! A different, new world for us and we are certainly learning so much on the fly.”

Teigen thanked everyone for their encouragement and support.

“This post is to thank you so much for your kindness,” she added. “It helps Miles so much to know so many other people are going through the same thing and he is not alone.”

The model shared how they had read the book Year One With Type-1 to their son and it had caused her to be overcome with emotion.

“John and I read it to Miles last night and I burst into tears at this page and had to leave the room so he couldn’t see me sobbing,” she wrote. “He loves the book so much already. Anyhow, you are not alone either! And we promise to be there for you guys like you have been there for us already!.”

Teigen’s comments were filled with support from her famous friends and followers.

Nick Jonas, another celebrity who has been living with Type 1 diabetes since his early teen years liked the post. Off of social media, Teigen shared how she and her family had ran into the Jonas at the Olympics and he was very kind to Miles.

“My two brothers have T1, love that book. ❤️ @nickjonas does too, your son should go meet bad ass people, and see he’s not alone and can still accomplish anything. It’s scary but it becomes second nature and you guys will rock it,” a user wrote.

“Nick was so kind to him!!,” she replied to the person who commented. “We were so lucky to run into him ❤️.”

Teigen and Legend have three other children apart from miles, they are Luna, Wren, and Esti. The couple was spotted at the Olympic opening ceremony with their two eldest kids.

“opening ceremonies! sure it was a little (a lot) rainy but wowowowowow absolutely epic experience (and got to see a few of my favorite people!),” Teigen captioned a post with a few photos.
