Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial ended without a verdict after the jury was ultimately deadlocked. Now, Judge Judy is weighing in on the case, saying there’s a real “danger” should she not be retried.
On January 24, 2023, Patrick Clancy went out to pick up some medication and takeout dinner. When he returned home, he made a gruesome discovery.
His then-wife, Lindsay Clancy, had killed the couple’s children – 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and eight-month-old Callan – before reportedly attempting to take her own life. She survived a fall from a 20-foot window but was left paralyzed from the waist down.
Lindsay was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, but the case ended in a mistrial after one member of the jury refused to agree to find her not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. The other 11 jurors were prepared to reach that conclusion.

Her defense has argued that she should not be held criminally responsible for the deaths because she was experiencing severe postpartum psychosis and other mental-health issues at the time. Prosecutors, however, have maintained that she understood her actions and knew what she was doing.
With the jury unable to reach a unanimous verdict, the case remains unresolved. Prosecutors have not yet announced whether they will seek a retrial. Authorities are expected to provide an update on what happens next on September 29.
As the question of a possible retrial remains hanging over the case, legal commentator and television personality Judy Sheindlin – better known as Judge Judy – has now weighed in.
“There’s no question that she killed her children, the only question is – is there an excuse for it? Make up your own mind on that one,” she said, according to UNILAD.
When asked by a TMZ reporter whether prosecutors should pursue a retrial, she said: “I think there’s a danger in not retrying,” empathizing the importance of a definitive adjudication in serious cases involving allegations of violent crimes.
She also addressed the political discussion surrounding the case. More specifically, she commented on South Carolina Republican Representative Nancy Mace’s call for Clancy to face a public execution following the mistrial.
“I think that’s ridiculous,” Judge Judy said.
