What happened to Bruna?
Bruna’s health took a dramatic turn in 2019 when Bruna began convulsing due to cardiorespiratory arrest. David recounted the harrowing incident, saying: “In a matter of three minutes, she lost all vital signs. We rushed to the hospital, and after 25 minutes, they managed to resuscitate her, but she had been without oxygen for a long time.”
According to David, Bruna suffered from a disorder that affects higher brain functions but leaving basic nervous system functions intact. As a result, she entered a vegetative state. Bruna spent nearly two years in the hospital, and since June 2019, David has devoted all his time to caring for her at home. However, being unemployed, he has faced challenges meeting the escalating needs of his partner, and so he turned to fundraising.
Despite the support received from compassionate individuals, the mounting expenses for Bruna’s care were costly. David acknowledged the financial struggle, stating: “We haven’t managed to get her retirement yet. But two volunteer lawyers are helping us. We are living on donations.” Amidst these difficulties, a glimmer of hope emerged when David learned of a treatment option in Canada, which would cost around $20,000.
While David successfully raised $28,000, Bruna’s ongoing monthly expenses continue to pose a financial challenge. The couple remains hopeful that additional funds will help Bruna’s condition. Over five years have passed since Bruna’s medical emergency, with David sharing memories of their relationship and keeping followers updated on Bruna’s progress via his Instagram page.
