Peter Mossfield, a man determined to transform his body for a bodybuilding competition, has taken an unconventional approach – consuming 24 alcoholic drinks a day while using steroids and largely avoiding exercise.
Peter Mossfield, who runs the Instagram account BoozeBagFitness, first bet that he could become addicted to alcohol and then quit. Last year, several people accepted his $5,000 challenge – and lost, leaving Peter with a significant amount of money.
After that, he decided to take on something even more unusual.
His next goal was to see whether he could achieve what he considered the best possible physique while drinking 24 beverages a day and continuing to exercise. Then someone suggested he could skip the hard work and use steroids instead.
Peter went along with the idea and began documenting his physical transformation online.
He now has several other extreme goals in mind, including completing a “beer marathon” by running 26 miles while consuming 26 beers. He also plans to compete in an MMA fight.
In May, Peter told LADbible that he felt “great” and believed his appearance was finally reflecting how he sees himself.
“I know everyone says the gear will make me irritable, but it’s more like having a chip on my shoulder knowing I’m on the way to greatness and not having time to listen to a word of negativity from anyone questioning me or hating on me as I get there,” he explained.
“Really proud of what my body’s been able to take”
However, the lifestyle has reportedly come with some unpleasant side effects.
“Sleep is bad and I’ve been cramping a lot, but nothing another supplement or IV can’t fix in my opinion.
“Really proud of what my body’s been able to take.”
Peter has continued to rely heavily on supplements and IV treatments while using steroids.
Although he isn’t completely giving up beers, he has changed what he drinks. Peter said he had switched to diet Coke and vodka.
According to Peter, he went from 191 pounds to 208 pounds – but since then, he’s started what he calls “the cut”: some eggs, and protein powder mixed into his drinks. That’s basically his whole diet.
What steroids can do to the body
However, while Peter has spoken positively about his experience, medical professionals have warned that anabolic steroids come with serious risks.
Dr. Kathryn Basford of Asda Online Doctor told LADbible: “Anabolic steroids are often used to build muscle and enhance performance, but they can be dangerous if used incorrectly or without medical advice. This is because regularly taking anabolic steroids can lead to both physical and psychological changes, as well as certain dangerous medical conditions.
“For men, side effects of anabolic steroids can include infertility, erectile dysfunction, hair loss, and increased risk of testicular cancer. For women, they can cause problems with periods, hair loss, and excess growth of facial and body hair.
“Both men and women who misuse anabolic steroids are more at risk of developing serious medical conditions like heart attack or stroke, liver or kidney problems, high blood pressure, deep vein thrombosis, and high cholesterol. Psychologically, misusing steroids can lead to aggressive behaviour, mood swings, paranoia, and even hallucinations.
“It is generally recommended to avoid consuming alcohol while taking anabolic steroids as this can significantly increase the risk of serious health conditions like liver damage, hepatitis, fibrosis, or even liver failure.”
Illegal to use without a valid prescription
The combination of alcohol and steroids can be particularly concerning.
“Repeated misuse of steroids and alcohol can lead to a number of harmful effects on the body, increasing the risk of cirrhosis, tumours, heart attack and stroke, and pancreatitis. This is because alcohol can significantly compound side effects of steroid misuse; both substances can damage the heart and liver, so combining heavy alcohol with steroids significantly increases these risks. If you have been prescribed steroid medication, it’s best to speak with your doctor first about whether you should drink any alcohol,” Dr Basford added.
And while anabolic steroids may increase muscle mass, Basford stressed that this isn’t equivalent to developing a physique through conventional training.
“While the use of anabolic steroids can increase muscle mass, the result is not the same as a trained physique from exercise and resistance training. Steroids can cause fluid retention, potentially making muscles appear bloated or soft. Muscle gained without training is usually unsustainable if the drug use is stopped.
“Anabolic steroids can be addictive, and withdrawal symptoms often include depression or anxiety, insomnia, anorexia, headaches, fatigue, and muscle and joint pain. You should see a doctor if you feel you are addicted to steroids, and they will provide a treatment plan.
“Anabolic steroids are prescription-only medicines, and can only be issued by a doctor or pharmacist. In the US, they are illegal to use or possess without a valid prescription, and it is also illegal to sell or share them.”
