Still reeling from the loss of Friends’ star Matthew Perry, some friends are quietly mourning while others dishing out some dirt on the late Hollywood icon, who died October 30.

A private funeral took place earlier this month and officials are still investigating the cause of Perry’s death, but do not suspect foul play.

Perry’s vibrant life was oftentimes dimmed by decades of addiction and struggles through sobriety, and people are wondering if his well-documented troubles played a role in his tragic death.

Now, sources once close to the star are sharing that he was miserable and struggling through days leading up to his death.

According to RadarOnline.com, the Saving Sara actor was troubled and hid his personal anguish from his sitcom co-stars and others close to him.

“But things weren’t as rosy as the picture he painted on his book tour,” an anonymous source said. “He was miserable and depressed, despite the perception that he had turned his life around.”

The same source also shared that though he stopped imbibing – both alcohol and narcotics – he continued to chain-smoke and found comfort in food.

Another source said Perry was “embarrassed by his appearance and fizzled career.” The person continued that he felt “he wasn’t worthy to be around” his Friends co-stars, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow, all who showed up to his private November 3 funeral at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. “While the other Friends all continued to be successful and beautiful, he was sloppy and overweight,” the unnamed person added.

A woman who dated Perry a couple of years ago claimed he was still haunted by his demons.

Heartbreak

According to sources, Perry was “desperately lonely” after splitting from girlfriend Molly Hurwitz, his former literary manager, whom he dated from 2018 and was engaged from 2020 to 2021.

On October 30, Hurwitz, now 32, shared an emotional tribute on her Instagram, conveying deep affection for the star.

In her post, Hurwitz pens, “I obviously knew that man in a very different way, too. While I loved him deeper than I could comprehend, he was complicated, and he caused pain like I’d never known. No one in my adult life has had a more profound impact on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I have tremendous gratitude for that, for everything I learned from our relationship.”

Before ending the post with “I feel relief that you are at peace,” Hurwitz shares, “I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Al Anon, an invaluable resource for those who love someone struggling with this destructive disease.”

Hurwitz experienced first-hand the destructive nature of his addiction.

In his 2022 memoir, “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” the star of Whole Nine Yards admits that he proposed to Hurwitz while he was in rehab and “high as a kite.” He adds, “she knew it, too. And she said yes.”

Shortly after their engagement, Perry called Hurwitz the “greatest woman on the face of the planet at this time,” per People.

But, once he was out of rehab and newly sober, he shares he was shocked to learn he was engaged and living with Hurwitz and her dogs.

“I was slowly beginning to realize that I was engaged, lived with a woman and two dogs,” the West Wing alum writes. “…I was not ready for any of this.”

“I didn’t remember – needless to say, we broke up.”

At the time, Perry said the decision to part was mutual, but sources say it left him shattered. “Matthew went to pieces,” said one source about him splitting with Hurwitz. “She was the only human contact in his life, and he was planning for them to grow old together.”

Until we get conclusive toxicology results, we’ll likely hear many different theories about how the comedic genius died. What we do know is that people are still talking about him because he is dearly missed!
