A long-running conspiracy theory claiming Melania Trump uses a body double has resurfaced once again and this time social media users believe they have identified the woman they think is secretly standing in for the First Lady.
The latest speculation began after President Donald Trump was photographed leaving Air Force One on August 11 alongside a woman wearing large dark sunglasses.
Within hours, images and footage from the appearance began circulating online, with some users insisting the woman beside Trump was not Melania.
Instead, they pointed to one of Trump’s aides: Margo Martin.
There is no evidence that Martin has ever acted as Melania Trump’s body double, and the claims remain entirely unsubstantiated social media speculation.
But that hasn’t stopped the latest round of “Fake Melania” theories from spreading online.
Social media users think they know who the mystery woman is
Several users on X shared photographs and video of Trump stepping off Air Force One with the woman, comparing her appearance to that of Martin.
One account directly tagged Martin and asked whether she was the woman pictured beside the president. The same account went further, claiming that Martin had been pretending to be Melania and alleging that she “often works as a body double” for the First Lady.
No evidence was provided to support the extraordinary claim.
Martin has frequently been photographed alongside the president has previously drawn attention for looking similar to Melania. Trump has even publicly referred to her as “the most beautiful photographer in the world.”
However, there is nothing to suggest she has ever impersonated Melania or appeared publicly as her stand-in.
The ‘Fake Melania’ conspiracy has been around for years
This is far from the first time internet users have become convinced that Melania has been replaced by a lookalike. The theory first gained widespread attention during Trump’s first term as president.
In October 2017, Melania was photographed wearing oversized sunglasses during a visit to a Secret Service training facility. This was enough for some online users to speculate that the woman beside Trump wasn’t actually his wife.
Trump’s own comments at the event added fuel to the rumors when he referred to Melania as being “right here” while she stood beside him.
Her office dismissed the speculation at the time, with a spokesperson criticizing the story as a ridiculous distraction.
Sunglasses, shoes and teeth have all been used as ‘evidence’
Over the years, believers in the theory have seized on almost every detail of Melania’s public appearances.
Her sunglasses have repeatedly been cited as supposed evidence that something is being hidden. In other cases, people have focused on her shoes, clothing, facial features and even her teeth.
The theory resurfaced again during a NATO summit in 2018 and exploded once more in 2019, prompting Trump himself to hit back accusing the media of using altered images of his wife to fuel the conspiracy.
A separate round of speculation emerged in 2020 after a photograph of the couple on Marine One went viral. Fact-checkers later examined the claim and found no evidence that a body double had replaced Melania.
Yet the theory refused to disappear.
‘Fake Melania’ rumors continue to return
More recently, social media users questioned whether it was really Melania during appearances in 2025, including Pope Francis’ funeral and a military parade celebrating the US Army’s 250th anniversary.
Once again, there was no credible evidence to support claims that a stand-in had been used.
The latest Air Force One footage has now given the conspiracy a new twist, with users naming Margo Martin as the woman they believe could be involved.
For now, though, there is no proof that Melania Trump has ever used a body double.
