An Illinois mother has been charged with murder after she allegedly killed her 2-year-old son before attempting to harm herself, as per shocking reports.
Police and court records detail how a harrowing scene played out last week in the village of Frankfort, Illinois, when an infant boy was found hanging in the basement of his family home. His mother, 40-year-old Corie Walsh, was discovered upstairs in the bathtub – it’s alleged she had tried to die by suicide.
On Friday, September 4, Walsh was charged by police with three counts of first-degree murder.
During their petition to deny her pretrial release, prosecutors drew eerie, direct comparisons to the trial involving Lindsay Clancy, the woman accused of murdering her three children in January 2023, even alleging that Walsh had “recently become very invested in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial.”
Clancy’s case, which dominated headlines across the US and beyond, ended in a mistrial on Friday.
As per NBC News, Walsh was “actively discussing the case” in group text messages with her friends up until 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1.

Three and a half hours later, the horrific, aforementioned scene at her home was discovered.
Authorities told how Frankfort police responded to the home just after 4 p.m. Tuesday on a report of an unresponsive child. Officers arrived to find a neighbor performing CPR on two-year-old Barrett Walsh, who she had found hanging in the basement.
The infant was rushed to a local hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead. The Will County Coroner’s Office ruled his death an apparent homicide.
Meanwhile, officers found Walsh in the bathroom of an upstairs bedroom, lying in a tub fully dressed and “surrounded by bloody water.” The petition detailed how Walsh had been discovered with cuts to her wrists and thighs. She was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Walsh told officers “she did this to her baby because he was the ‘devil’ and the ‘anti-Christ,’” as per the filing.
According to NBC, Walsh’s husband was out of town at the time. An infant was home and unharmed, prosecutors said.
Walsh allegedly made statements concerning harming her other children and planning to harm her husband upon his return home, prosecutors said in the filing.
Once hospitalized, she described to officers “the manner in which she killed Barrett,” which was consistent with evidence at the scene, the petition said.
