Victoria Beckham has spent decades making sky-high heels look effortless, but after taking her stilettos somewhere most people would consider strictly sneaker territory, a personal trainer is warning fans not to follow her footsteps.
There are certain rules Victoria Beckham appears to live by: A little Gucci goes a long way and, no matter how much fun you’re having, there’s no need to show it on your face.
The 52-year-old even poked fun at her famously serious expression in her Netflix docuseries, Victoria Beckham joking that she is “smiling on the inside” despite looking “miserable for all these years.”
“I’m smiling on the inside, but no one ever sees it,” Victoria quipped in the doc. “So, that’s why I look so moody.”
‘Can’t concentrate in flats’
But perhaps the most enduring rule in Victoria’s fashion playbook is that almost everything is better in heels.
During a 2008 with GMTV cited by Vanity Fair, the fashion designer famously declared, “I can’t concentrate in flats,” making her feelings about sensible footwear perfectly clear.
Nine years later, the pop star shared a photo of herself running on a treadmill in a long dress, dark sunglasses and burgundy stiletto boots, adding the wonderfully understated caption, “Morning run!”
Now, nearly another decade later, the treadmill has been replaced by a StairMaster, but the heels haven’t gone anywhere.
Full glam workout
While preparing to unveil her Spring/Summer 2027 collection during Paris Fashion Week, the mother of four – in full glam – climbed onto the machine in a burgundy leather skirt and towering stilettos, turning an ordinary bit of cardio into something only Posh Spice could pull off.
Her husband David Beckham was there to capture the moment, and according to clips shared online, even he appeared to wonder whether his wife’s dedication to Fashion Week had gone a little too far.
“Darling, I know it’s Fashion Week, but don’t you think you’re taking this a bit too far?” he asked as she continued stepping away in her heels.
After Victoria grins at the camera and before the clip ends, the legendary footballer can be heard telling his wife: “It looks like you’re ready,”
The clip quickly caught attention online, with one amused viewer writing, “Definitely a Fashion Lady!! Love you Posh Spice,” while another warned, “This is not even funny, but dangerous act.”
And “heelmastering” is where the experts would like Posh Spice’s influence to end.
‘Designed for fashion, not exercise’
Jessica Dubash, a qualified personal trainer and team leader at Net World Sports, told Tyla she “definitely wouldn’t recommend walking on a treadmill or stair climber in high heels.”
“Heels can look great, boost confidence and completely elevate an outfit, but they’re designed for fashion, not exercise,” Dubash warned. “Even a relatively small heel changes the position of the foot and alters the way the lower body moves.”
She continued, “It’s also important to remember that just because walking in heels feels more difficult, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting a better workout,” she warned.
“I’d be particularly cautious when it comes to treadmills and stair climbers. You’re combining an elevated, less stable shoe with a moving piece of equipment, which leaves far less room for error,” she said.
“One misplaced step, a slipping heel or a momentary loss of balance could result in a fall, ankle sprain or other injury,” Dubash warned, adding that the “risk becomes even greater with a four-inch heel.”
