Marveling over her “miracle,” Rebel Wilson finally revealed the cuteness behind the strategically placed emojis or stickers that she used to conceal the face of her new baby.
Born on November 7, 2022, The Senior Year star announced on her Instagram, the arrival of Royce Lillian, who was born via surrogate and has since teased the public by keeping her baby, who was “years in the making,” under wraps.
Along with an adorable photo of the baby lying on her back, her right hand hiding her face, Wilson writes, “Beyond proud to announce the birth of my first child, Royce Lillian, born this past week via surrogate. I can’t even describe the love I have for her, she’s a beautiful miracle!” The 43-year-old added that she’s forever grateful for the support she’s received, specifically her “gorgeous surrogate who carried (Royce) and birthed her with such grace and care. Thank you for helping me start my own family, it’s an amazing gift. The BEST gift!!”
Wilson’s journey in having a baby was not an easy one.
Known as Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect franchise, Wilson was having difficulty with fertility, which was compromised by her condition, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and magnified by her extra weight.
Appearing on the cover of People in 2022, Wilson candidly spoke about seeing a fertility doctor in 2019, who bluntly told the then 42-year-old that she would have a better chance of harvesting her eggs if she lost weight. “He looked me up and down and said, ‘You’d do much better if you were healthier,’” Wilson told People. “I was taken aback. I thought, ‘Oh God, this guy’s so rude.’ He was right. I was carrying around a lot of excess weight. It’s almost like I didn’t think of my own needs. I thought of a future child’s needs that really inspired me to get healthier.”
Determined, Wilson lost over 80 lbs in 2020. “It wasn’t a goal to get to a certain weight…It was just being the healthiest version of myself,” she said.
Since her weight loss, she said she now knows what it’s like “on the other side of the coin.”
“I was invisible in a way even when I was an international movie star…And then suddenly to have people want to carry your groceries, do nice things for you purely because of how you look, it’s interesting,” said Wilson, who’s starred in comedies like How to be Single (2016) and The Hustle (2019).
Learning in real life how to be single after a 2021 split with Jacob Busch, of the Anheuser-Busch brewing dynasty, Wilson shared, “I would love to have a family. I’m just going for it by myself at the moment because of the biological clock…If I meet the right person, great, and then they can fit in with whatever happens.”
Filming The Almond and The Seahorse (2022), which allowed Wilson the opportunity to play a more dramatic role, her character Sarah, was struggling with having a baby, which paralleled her real-life journey at the time.
Explaining that her “feelings of loss, feelings of hope” played into her performance, Wilson said, “During the filming I received some terrible news that all my harvested eggs up until that point had not survived being thawed. So I’d lost a huge amount of weight and been through 3 surgeries at that point and no viable embryos…It was devastating.”
Today, the star of Isn’t it Romantic, has a fiancé, who’s also a mom to Royce.
In the first half of 2022, Wilson posted a sweet Instagram photo of her and Ramona Agruma, with the caption, “I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess.”
In February of this year, Wilson and Arguma had a fit for a princess engagement at Disneyland. At this time, a wedding date has not been revealed.
In April 2023, The Australian-born actor shared a photo of her holding Royce in the turquoise waters of their island getaway. The adorable baby, wearing a bright pink bathing suit with an embellished mermaid on the front, had a white bucket hat covering her head. Wilson captioned the photo, “Roycie’s first ever swim in the ocean.”
The big baby reveal happened on Mother’s Day, when she posted a family photo of her sitting with Arguma–wearing a pink baseball cap reading “mama”–and a laughing baby Royce in her lap. “Happy Mother’s Day! (Just woke up at 5:30am and changed a big (poop) …how about you?)” she writes.
Explaining in an interview how Royce’s poop is shocking, she said, “…how much she poops…Very surprising for one little baby. I was like, ‘How does she do it?’ Oh my God. I call her a poopy princess.”
Wilson has settled into motherhood and though her priorities have shifted, sometimes leaving her with no makeup or unwashed hair, she says she can’t get enough of Royce. “I want to spend as much time with her as humanly possible. I love cuddling her. I’m obsessed with her already. She’s just the cutest,” Wilson gushed.
Rebel Wilson is an incredible and versatile actor and it’s great to see her making some major transformations in her personal life to achieve her family goals.
Congratulations to the new family and we look forward to seeing more pictures of Royce as she grows!
