To watch television is hardly something one would imagine could save a life. But in this particular story, that is, well, kind of what happened. After reading this, you may hesitate to call that box in your living room nothing but a brain numbing device.
Tarek El Moussa is best known for hosting popular home renovation American program “Flip or flop”. After recently airing one of his shows, he and his producers received an unusual email. It was sent by a woman by the name of Ryan Reed, a 31-year-old registered nurse who was watching the program when something caught her attention.
She observed, through her television screen, that something was not right with Tarek’s throat. Fearing that Tarek might mistaken her for a crazed fan, she had the better sense to write to his production team. In her email, she shares her concern and urges Ryan to see a doctor.
“This is not a joke. I’m a registered nurse,” she wrote. “I’ve been watching Flip or Flop. I noticed that the host Tarek has a large nodule on his thyroid, and he needs to have it checked out.”
It turned out the nurse’s astute observations were on the ball. Tarek was in fact suffering from thyroid cancer. Thanks to Ryan’s email, Tarek did go see a doctor and the dangerous lump could immediately be removed. Unfortunately, the cancer had already spread to his lymph nodes, so Tarek required radiation therapy.
Fortunately, the cancer has since not spread further and the TV star is recovering.
I never imagined that this could ever be a way to save a life, so I just had to share this unusual and fantastic story with my friends!
