Springtime has a busy season for Rod Stewart, who became a grandfather for the second and third time, with babies born only days apart.
And, for the first time, friends says the former sex symbol who asked the world “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy,” is finally faithful to one woman, his wife Penny Lancaster, with whom he recently renewed wedding vows.
Having eight kids of his own, the “Maggie May” singer is quite comfortable being around children.
On May 9, his daughter Ruby, the fourth of his children, announced the birth of her baby boy, whom she shares with fiancé Jake Kalic.
The singer and model, whose mother is Rod’s ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg, revealed the baby’s name on Mother’s Day, along with several photos. She writes, “This love… unlike any other love I’ve ever known….I am only a mirror of what I feel from you…” She continued, “I am only a mirror of what I feel from you…I can’t remember what life was like before you…I can’t remember what life was like before you…But nothing else matters now that you’re here…Your arrival into the world marks the beginning of our family…it all started with you Otis…”
Jake commented on her Instagram post with, “Happy first Mother’s Day! Thanks for making me a dad.”
Days after Otis was born, the baby fever continued in the Stewart family with the birth of Louie, born May 12, to Liam Stewart, 28, and his partner Nicole Ann.
Sharing a gallery of pictures on his Instagram, the new father wrote, “Welcome lad, you American, British, Croatian, Kiwi.”
Liam, whose mother Rachel Hunter was married to Rod from 1990 to 2006, chimed in writing, “Welcome you beautiful angel,” and Lancaster, Rod’s current wife, added to the comments, “Congratulations, that’s the look of love. Can’t wait for a hug.”
Lancaster, who married the legendary rock star in 2007, recently joined Rod, 78, on his tour in Australia, where they renewed their wedding vows for a second time, two months before their 16th anniversary, which falls on June 16.
According to Women’s Day, Stewart “insisted he space out his tour dates,” allowing time to have a secret renewal celebration with Lancaster and their children, sons Alastair, 17, and Aiden, 12, and their 18-year-old niece Raphaella.
“They love Australia and have incredibly happy family memories of their time there when the boys were little,” said an anonymous friend. “They think there’s something magical about Australia and want to exchange new marriage vows there. Penny’s made Rod a very happy man and he can’t wait to celebrate their against-all-odds union.”
Rod, a notorious ladies’ man, has eight children with five women, and including Lancaster, three wives.
His first child is Sarah, whom he had with ex-girlfriend Susannah Boffey (1963 to 1964). Then, after a number of brief relationships, he married actor-model Alana Collins (1979 to 1984) and together, they had two children, Kimberly in 1979 and Sean in 1980. Kimberly, a fashion designer and model, gave her dad his first grandchild, Delilah, whose father is actor Benicio del Toro. And, according to People, in February 2023, Sean married Jody Weintraub, the daughter of the late Jerry Weintraub, the producer of the film Ocean’s Eleven.
Ruby was born in 1987 during Rod’s seven-year relationship with model Kelly Emberg. In 1990, he married model Rachel Hunter and with her, he has two kids, Renee (born 1992) and Liam (born 1994).
Still married to Hunter, Rod met Lancaster while touring in 1999. Lancaster, a model turned photographer, offered to take some photos of him and eight years later, he divorced Hunter and in 2007, him and Lancaster were married at a medieval monastery in Italy’s Portofino.
Friends say that Lancaster, a gorgeous 52-year-old model, is the one who reformed him.
“Penny is the first woman Rod’s been faithful to, after an early hiccup that saw her walk out on him,” said his friend.
In his early days with Lancaster, Rod was still living a rock star’s life but quickly learned his lesson when she learned of his continued infidelity.
“He was still playing games…I didn’t want to be a girlfriend I wanted to be “the” girlfriend. I said from the beginning–please don’t do that to me. I understand if you want to go about with other girls, but I don’t want to play games.”
She added, “I remember finding a photo of him with another woman and I said, ‘I warned you, goodbye’ and I walked.”
Lancaster said standing up for herself earned the respect of the “Tonight I’m Yours” singer. She said, “The fact that I spoke up for myself meant he respected me and we ended up being a perfect match.”
In 2017, on their 10th wedding anniversary, the couple renewed their wedding vows under an ancient beech tree at their Essex home. Speaking with Hello! (as per Daily Mail), Rod said, “Penny is my whole world. Love means many things to many people but to me it’s wanting to share everything with the one you love and I love Penny now more than ever, if that is at all possible.”
As for their 2023 vow renewals, the friend added, “Penny and Rod love being in love, they think there’s something fun about celebrating their vows in different locations around the world, so why not do it all again in Sydney!”
Though his iconic spiky hairstyle hasn’t changed in six decades, we’re happy that his behavior with women has seen a tremendous transformation!
