Stranger mansplains correct swinging technique to pro golfer – ‘I was lost for words’

A video where a man is offering unsolicited advice to correct the swing of a professional golfer is making its rounds across social media, surely causing the unknown golf guru a lot of embarrassment.

The video, that’s been viewed more than 10.5 million times, shows Georgia Ball, a PGA Pro, keeping her cool while someone at the driving range mansplains how to properly swing a club.

Insisting he knows what he’s talking about, the man continues to critique her technique, shocking the woman who was at the range, recording clips on shifting her swing for followers. Keep reading to learn more about this cringey moment at the driving range!

Georgia Ball, a certified PGA pro and instructor, regularly sets up a camera to record herself swinging, later sharing the tips to her audiences on TikTok and Instagram.

In late February, she shared a 90-second viral clip, captioned “Can you believe he said this?” filmed at a driving range near Liverpool.

Ball is seen following through on a swing, firing it across green.

Then, a male voice is heard off-camera, saying “excuse me.”

As her head turns to the voice, the man can be heard lecturing her, “What you’re doing there, you shouldn’t be doing that. You should be…right through. Swing and follow through.” Referring to her backswing, he continues, “You’re … too slow on the way up.”

Ball politely explains she’s working on developing a new technique and going through each component of her swing slowly.

“I’m going through a swing change at the minute,” she responds, trying to disengage and return to her play.

Despite his lack of professional experience, the man pressed on. “No, I know. What you’re doing there is you’re coming back too slow.” He then adds, “I’ve been playing golf for 20 years.”

Ball then looks at the camera, her eyes widen in surprise, and then her gaze returns to his continued voice.

Mansplaining further, the stranger advises, “What you need to do is follow through a lot quicker than you’re doing there.”

Again telling him she’s “going through a swing change at the minute,” she turns to swing when she’s interrupted again.

Flashing her eyes again at the camera, she says “okay,” in a tone that suggests she’s getting annoyed, and then drives another ball to the edge of the green.

“See how much better that was?” he asks. Taking credit for the shot, Ball loses her patience and laughs.

For the third time, she explains she’s going through a swing change, “so everything’s slow.”

She says, “I don’t know whether you see or watch golf, the best players in the world, when they are making a practice swing or going through a change…”

Still, he doesn’t take the hint and chipping in, he again reminds her that he has been “playing golf for 20 years.”

Shaking her head in surprise, she then responds, “thanks for your advice.”

Baffled over the interaction Ball had with this man, online users argued she should have put the man in his place by revealing she’s a professional golfer.

“I really wish you told him your expertise and didn’t continue with the giggle and sweet replies,” writes one TikTok user.

Speaking with BBC Radio 4, Ball explains that it’s not in her nature.

“I wouldn’t interrupt and say that. I suppose it’s just the humble side of me,” she says. “For me to turn around and say ‘I’m a PGA pro’… it’s not in me to do that. I have a lot of interaction with males and females every single day. And I’d say it’s mostly always positive.”

And though she didn’t shut him down, the clip is providing entertainment for online users, many who are joking about the cringey moment.

Mocking his “20 years of golf experience, another netizen writes, “I wonder how long he’s been playing golf??”

A third cybernaut shares, “She’s going through a SWING CHANGE SIR!!”

Another adds, “My hope is that he comes across this video and it keeps him up at night.”

Secretly, we’re also hoping he comes across this video.

What do you think of this story? While it is incredibly funny, it is also very embarrassing for man who felt it was his right to lecture a pro player!
