A lot of fans of the show were shocked at the show’s choice of an advisor.
Many netizens who have heard the news were quick to voice their disdain for the show’s choice. “My noise is Boo! Why didn’t you pick a real musician??” a comment which landed at the top of the comments section read. Another fan wrote of their dismay, “I will be fast forwarding him.”
One angry fan questioned the show’s choice writing, “Why?? Couldn’t find someone with actual musical talent?”
But MGK fans also came to the comment section to support their favorite artist. One person wrote, “i already know mr mgk will be the best advisor ever.”
Another simply wrote, “Best decision,” to signify their happiness at MGK being Gwen Stefani’s playoff advisor!
The singer, who was born Richard Colson Baker, is not new to receiving mixed reactions from people. When he won at the People’s Choice Country Awards on September 26, the reactions he got were also similar. He took home the Best Crossover Song award for “Lonely Road,” his collaboration with country singer Jelly Roll. He said in his acceptance speech, “Country music, thank you for welcoming us into your house. I don’t view music in genres. To me, there’s [sic] two genres of music: good music and bad music. I think we’re in the good part.”
The 34-year-old artist also talked about his relationship with song collaborator Jelly Roll, someone who he had a feud with in the past. He said, “We went from 10 years ago hating each other to elevating each other. Comparison is the thief of joy. There is enough room on this couch for everybody. We found camaraderie in the chaos. The singer reflected on his journey, saying, “Last year, I was right there, sitting in that seat, watching my boy rocking that stage. And I was like, ‘Man, one day I hope we’re up there.’ And we’re here!”
While there were a lot of people who celebrated this win and cross-over, there were a lot of people who did not appreciate MGK’s arrival in country music.
One user person wrote, “Awful!! Stay away from country music,” to express their frustration. Another person voiced their opinion, saying, “What a slap in the face to real country singers. It’s so wrong. So sad.”
After they won the award, MGK shared a clip on X (formerly known as Twitter) which showed his happy reaction with the caption that read, “i still cant believe it 🤯🤯🤯 [sic].” Recently, the singer has also been talking about his journey of sobriety.
He shared how he looked at the bigger picture of his life and it helped him make the decision. He said, “I had to zoom out and take a look at myself from a holistic perspective.” The musician also reflected on the significance of the number of the day he was born, “I was born on the 22nd. Twenty-two is a master number. What am I here to master? I had to ask myself that question.”
This helped the singer explore the generational challenges he was handed with. He now acknowledges the impact of his father’s behavior and struggles. He said, “What were my generational curses and problems that were passed down on to me and to my father? Rest in peace.”
He sees himself as a ‘good man’, and as part of his purpose, he wants to find solace in forgiving himself.
One of the big proponents in his journey toward sobriety was his daughter Casie Baker. “I have a daughter who I love with all of my heart and would die for. And I have a beautiful family and a beautiful group of friends and a beautiful life to live for. And I’m not in a haze anymore to not realize that,” the singer said.
Right now MGK is expecting a baby with his fianceé actress Megan Fox. The actress announced the pregnancy in a dramatic fashion on her Instagram account earlier this month.
We are wishing MGK the best of luck for his professional endeavors as well as his personal life as he gears up to become a father again. Share this with other fans of MGK and The Voice to see what their opinion on the situation is!
