Kate Middleton has recently debuted her new hair, which is a lighter blonde than what we are used to seeing on her. The Princess of Wales is now opening up on details and questions surrounding her hair.
During an appearance at the Royal Variety Performance in London, the 43-year-old future Queen of England shared with actress Su Pollard the mystery about her hair. Kate’s new hair is lighter and has now gold tones than before. The change in her appearance has caused quite a few headlines, and now the Princess has finally revealed to the public what has happened with her hair.
Su Pollar asked Kate about her hair immediately by giving a compliment to the Royal about it, she said, “I like your hair, it looks a lot lighter.” Kate Middleton immediately responded to the compliment with a quick explanation, “It used to be brown, but it’s gone light in the sunshine,” she reportedly said.
This was reported in the Daily Mail, and instantly made headlines the world over. However, some people remained unconvinced by Kate’s explanation, thinking there was more to the story.

One person wrote, “Anyone else feel it’s a wig.” While another added, “It looks like a wig, but her roots are showing. The sun didn’t change her hair that drastically and she’s not tanned. I don’t believe she said that.” Another person offered their theory, “Hair extensions galore.”
While there were some who believed her, one wrote, “My hair lightened up every summer when I am out in the sun a lot.” Others took issue with the fact that Kate had to offer any explanation whatsoever, writing, “She owes no one an explanation! The end”
Kate first appeared in public with her new hair in September of this year at the Natural History Museum gardens with her husband, Prince William. Fans noticed that the Princess’s hair was lighter than usual immediately.
At the time people thought her hair had looked lighter than ever before but just two days after she appeared at the Women’s Rugby World Cup and her hair was back to a darker shade.
At the same event as mentioned earlier, the Royal Variety Performance, Kate Middleton shared a heartfelt moment with singer Jessie J. The singer had announced her own health battle and later revealed that Princess Kate and her had an interaction which was incredibly moving. Jessie J said, “Mum to mum, who has just recently gone through cancer, I just wanted to give her a hug.” She added, “We acknowledged that it’s something that is not easy to go through, especially in the public eye.”
Jessie J was diagnosed with cancer in June and underwent surgery subsequently. She shared publicly that the cancer had thankfully not spread.
The Princess of Wales had a similar experience back in March 2024. She announced that she was undergoing treatment for cancer, and in September, she shared that she was now declared cancer-free by her doctors.
She posted the statement to X, saying, “I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment. Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus-”
“Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long, and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” she went on.
In the video message she also shared that she was “looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.”
The Royal Variety Performance marked Kate and Prince William’s first red appearance after two years of being absent from them.
The Princess resumed her royal duties in September 2024. After her preventative chemotherapy treatment, she spoke about the ordeal publicly.
She said, “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.”
“You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to,” she shared about her ordeal.
