Prince William and Kate Middleton’s latest public appearance fuels rumors about state of marriage

Kate Middleton and Prince William have found themselves at the center of another round of online speculation after a brief exchange during a royal welcome was interpreted as a sign that their marriage might be having some problems.

Keep reading to know more.

The moment took place on October 20, when the young royal couple joined King Charles and Queen Camilla to welcome Oman’s, Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

One social media user claimed Kate’s apparent concern for William sounded like something she would say to someone she had not seen in a while. Another post alleged that Prince William reacted angrily and signaled for her to turn away.

The claims spread widely online, with one post reportedly attracting over a million views.

But the viral theories are based on viewers’ interpretations of a short public interaction. There has been no evidence or any confirmation provided by any sources close to the couple which suggest these speculations have any truth to them.

A social media user claimed Kate’s question sounded like small talk between people who rarely see each other

The speculation began with posts from an X user named Nina, who describes herself as an “amateur Royal expert.”

Nina suggested that Kate’s apparent question about William’s wellbeing seemed unusual if the couple had arrived together.

“They supposedly arrived in the same car,” she wrote, before offering two possible explanations: Kate may have noticed that something was wrong with her husband, or the pair may not see each other very often.

She then imagined the exchange as a conversation between people who had been apart, “Are you ok? Haven’t seen you in ages.”

In a follow-up post, Nina focused on William’s apparent reaction, claiming that he “angrily signaled for her to turn.”

“Like notice how she turns her head away. Like in a second,” she added.

The post drew significant attention, but the alleged anger and the meaning behind the exchange remain the user’s interpretation. A brief moment captured on camera cannot establish what either person was thinking or reveal the state of their marriage.

The official schedule shows Kate and William did not arrive together

One detail in the online discussion was contradicted by the published arrangements for the visit.

According to the October 20 Court Circular, William greeted the Sultan at his residence in Wargrave, Berkshire, and then accompanied him by car to the Royal Dais in Windsor.

Kate arrived separately with King Charles and Queen Camilla.

ITV reported that the arrangement reflected the Sultan travelling without his wife, which changed the usual distribution of welcoming duties.

So although the social media post claimed the couple had arrived in the same car, the official schedule describes a different sequence.

The royals welcomed Oman’s Sultan before travelling to Windsor Castle

William and Kate, both 44, joined Charles, 77, and Camilla, 79, to welcome the 71-year-old Sultan.

After greeting the King and Queen, the Sultan shook hands with Kate, who curtsied.

The Princess of Wales wore a green Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen coat and a Juliette Botterill hat. The green also appeared to complement the color of Oman’s flag.

The royals then climbed into horse-drawn carriages for a rainy procession to Windsor Castle.

Charles and the Sultan travelled in the Irish State Coach. Camilla accompanied Oman’s deputy prime minister for defense affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, in the Scottish State Coach.

William and Kate shared the Australian State Coach with other members of the Omani delegation.

At the castle, the band played the two countries’ national anthems, and the King and Sultan inspected the Guard of Honour. The day’s program also included a display of Oman-related items from the Royal Collection.

According to the Court Circular, the couple later attended a royal luncheon and the state banquet that evening.

For the banquet, Kate wore a yellow Elie Saab gown and Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara.

The latest claims add to months of online speculation about the couple

Rumors about William and Kate’s relationship have circulated online throughout 2026, often built around photographs, short videos, or details viewers believe hint at trouble.

The couple met while studying at St. Andrews University in Scotland. Their relationship included a brief split in 2007 before they reconciled and married on April 29, 2011.

Royal biographer Robert Jobson discussed the breakup in his 2024 book Catherine, the Princess of Wales. According to an account cited by ABC News, William ended the relationship during a telephone call while serving in the military. The conversation reportedly lasted around 30 minutes, and Kate was left devastated.

The two later reunited after seeing each other at a mutual friend’s party.

Their past breakup has sometimes been brought into current online discussions, but it does not establish that they are separated now.
