Prince Andrew gave up his royal titles last week as new accusations against him in connection with Jeffrey Epstein came to light. It comes after sex trafficking victim Virginia Giuffre released her memoir posthumously. But her family doesn’t believe that Andrew losing his royal titles is enough. Now, they urge King Charles to act – and remove the last remaining title Prince Andrew still holds.
Sex trafficking victim Virginia Giuffre ended her life earlier this year. In the memoir, Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice, which was released posthumously earlier this week, Giuffre describes three occasions when she alleged Prince Andrew had sex with her.
The accusations against Prince Andrew have been numerous, and just days before the book was released, he decided to relinquish his royal titles.
While he continues to deny the accusations, Andrew said they “distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.”
“With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me,” Andrew wrote.
Just hours before the statement was made public, King Charles reportedly warned Andrew that if he didn’t give up the right to use his titles on his own, the Palace would take action. Andrew was previously stripped of his military titles, and now his “Duke” title, among others, is not his to use.
Virginia Giuffre’s family urges King Charles to strip Andrew of remaining title
However, that is not enough, according to Virginia Giuffre’s family. Appearing on ITV’s This Morning show, her brother, Sky Roberts, now urges King Charles to strip Andrew of his “Prince” title as well.
“I think we need to reopen investigations,” Sky Roberts said. “I think the U.K., law enforcement have documentation that supports being able to bring people to justice. Including Prince Andrew. And I do believe that just because you have the word ‘Prince’ in front of your name, doesn’t mean there is a different set of laws for you.”
“Everybody needs to be held to the same standard, and to that account, because I truly do believe that if Prince wasn’t in front of his name, that he would be behind bars right now, truthfully.”
Sky continued, “I think the King has the ability to take that away, so we would call for that action. But that’s just not enough,” he said. “Again, I do believe that there are two sets of laws for two sets of people. This is an exposure to our system. My sister was a truth teller this entire time. This is a vindicating moment for her and so, right now, I would call to reopen the investigation.”
“They have flight logs, they can follow the money, there is a money trail we can follow, and I do believe that there is substantial evidence there that we can place a case on a variety of these people and start supporting the survivors and start working for the people,” he concluded. “Our goal, and the only reason we’re really coming forward, is to keep her voice alive.”
