Man hitchhiking around the world reveals the best country he’s ever visited

Traveling the world is, for many, a great joy in life; for example, finding those well-hidden restaurants without any tourists, or maybe just visiting the country’s biggest tourist attraction; there is something for everyone.

A person who has traveled more than most is Timo de Jong. He’s hitchhiked his way around the globe – and now reveals which has been the best country he’s visited. Safe to say, it’s not what you’d expect.

You might think that you have been to the best country and had the best holiday ever, but think again. This man’s unforgettable journey will make you rethink all you know about traveling.

26-year-old Timo De Jong has been on many journeys. Recently, he’s hitchhiked from the UK to South Africa, and at the time of writing, he’s hitchhiking from South Korea to South Korea. Yes, you read that right. De Jong is on a global hitchhiking journey.

As of now, he’s in Afghanistan, and despite the tricky situation in the country regarding its economy and security, he says it’s a must-visit country. While he says it’s a country where you have to “know what you’re doing,” it’s a must.

“If you know what you’re doin,g it’s lovely and the people are wonderful,” he said. “You can just walk on the street here and someone will see you, and someone will be like, ‘Hey, nice to meet you’. ‘Do you want to come to my house for tea or food or whatever?’ Imagine if you tried to do that at home, like you see a foreigner walking on the streets, and you just invite them into your house for tea, that just wouldn’t happen.”

Even though Afghanistan might be an amazing country, it’s not the one branded “the best country” by Timo. So which one is it? According to the Dutch hitchhiker, Japan is.

“In Japan I decided to hitchhike everywhere. I spent five weeks hitchhiking across the country, couch-surfing and sleeping in my tent. It was amazing. And I had the best five weeks ever. I’ve pretty much been hitchhiking ever since.”

“How incredibly friendly the people were. After that, I realized maybe it wasn’t just Japan, that’s what opened my eyes to so many nice people in the world,” he added.
