Pubic hair: 7 scary reasons why you should never shave “down there”

Are you one of those women who shaves or waxes off all your pubic hair? Then, keep reading!

Because we’ve got seven reasons why you actually need hair down there.

So skip the razors and wax for a while and discover the difference!

You might think pubic hair seems unhygienic or is unnnecessary, but have you ever wondered why we have it?

If you think about it, the reasons are clear. These are the benefits of keeping the hair that protects your private parts:

1. Reduces the risk of yeast infections

A yeast infection is the last thing you want. But unfortunately, it’s quite easy to get one if your genitals are clean shaven.

Pubic hair wicks away moisture from your genitals. But without it, you’re more likely to stay damp down there if, for example, you wear a wet bathing suit for a long time. This creates the perfect conditions for a yeast infection.

“Pubic hair also helps to control the moisture of the area which decreases the chances of yeast infections,” doctor Vanessa Mackay told the Independent.

2. Increases sensitivity

Ever wonder why it hurts so much when someone yanks a hair from your head. It’s because hair roots have special sensors. And it’s the same with pubic hair.

Plus, once you remove your pubic hair, you lose that soft, cozy feeling.

3. Makes you sweat less

You might not have thought about it, but you sweat between your legs just like you sweat elsewhere. Imagine a hot day where your pants are pressed up your crotch all day — you’re going to get sweaty.

But if you have pubic hair, you have a natural buffer between your pants and your genitals so you can breathe more and sweat less.

4. Helps prevent skin irritation

The skin around your genitals is easily irritated. It’s delicate and doesn’t get as much air as your other body parts.

If you’ve ever shaved or waxed down there, your skin has probably become a little red or you’ve gotten ingrown hairs — not something you really want, right? If you just let your hair be, you’ll save yoursself a lot of irritation.

5. Regulates body temperature

In the same way pubic hair keep a guy’s testicles warm, it surrounds a woman’s genitals to help regulate temperature. And it also helps keep you warm when it gets cold outside.

6. Attracts others

It might sound crazy, but your pubic hair affects the pheromones that your body emits.

Pheromones, in turn, can attract other people, just like perfume can.

7. Reduces the risk of sexually transmitted diseases

According to statistics from the National Library of Medicine in the U.S., women who shave or wax their public hair are more likely to contract sexually transmitted diseases than those who keep their pubic hair intact.

This is because the tiny wounds caused by shaving and waxing are easy for bacteria to penetrate, and without these wounds — and with hair protecting your private parts — it’s more difficult to get infected with a sexually transmitted disease.
