Fixer Upper star Joanna Gaines needs some kind words and encouragement during the holiday season.
Just before Christmas, it was reported that the 44-year-old reality TV personality had been hospitalized.
”It may not all go as planned- but may you find the beauty and embrace the wonder of the here and now,” she wrote on her Instagram.
Four years ago, Chip and Joanna Gaines, everyone’s favorite home improvement couple on HGTV, fixed their last home on the wildly successful Fixer Upper – which attracted 19.6 million viewers every week.
According to Chip, the couple truly believed they needed a break, and so took a well-deserved rest to spend more time with their five children.
Then, in 2022, Chip and Joanna made their long-awaited return to cable TV by relaunching the DIY Network as Magnolia Network.
I loved Fixer Upper and watched it from the beginning. Seeing the Gaineses – a hard-working, wholesome couple with good common sense – was great.
Joanna Gaines was and is a big inspiration to me and many others – I find she’s got the balance just right when it comes to be talented and down to earth simultaneously. As an author and entrepreneur, she’s a great role model, and it seems like the Kansas native always has something cooking.
Of course, sometimes, the body has its ways of reminding you to slow down.
Joanna Gaines surgery
Just before Christmas, Joanna announced that she had undergone surgery and was recovering. On December 22, the TV star posted a photo from her hospital bed to share the news.
According to Joanna, she was forced to have a microdiscectomy, a surgery to treat a herniated disc. Her back problem dates back to her high school cheerleading days when she first sustained the injury (“a basket toss turned back injury”).
With the holidays coming up, the hospitalization didn’t come at the most convenient time. But the procedure, where a surgeon frees the nerve by removing small fragments of disc, bone, and ligament, was necessary,
Joanna’s first microdiscectomy was done in 2001, so this is a recurring problem that has continued to plague her over the years. She even canceled her second date with Chip Carter Gaines after going under the knife in 2001.
”I’ve always joked that my back likes to act up at the most inconvenient times, and I was a bit stressed bc of the timing of it all with the holiday season,” Gaines wrote on her Instagram.
“But I’m truly grateful for the forced rest during the busiest time of the year. It has been a gift to simply stay put, stare at the wonder all around, and just be still.”
Being hospitalized and having to rehabilitate over Christmas is never fun, but on the other hand, there may never be a good time to end up in the hospital. Joanna has, as always, retained a positive mindset and encouraged her followers to enjoy time with family and friends – because every cloud has a silver lining.
“Wishing you and yours a beautiful Christmas week. It may not all go as planned- but may you find the beauty and embrace the wonder of the here and now,” she wrote.
Hope your recovery goes smoothly and you feel much better soon, Joanna!
Wishing you the best with your lovely family! And a New Year feeling healthy, loved, and blessed.
