Ron Nessman, the man who went viral for saving a runaway stroller before it rolled onto a busy street in Hesperia, California, is once again making headlines.
The formerly homeless man happened to be in the right place at the right time on May 1 because he had been in the area for a job interview. On May 6 he revealed to NBCLA that he got the job!
“I’ll earn everything I get so with that in mind, you know, I appreciate the opportunity that Applebee’s has given me. It’s really cool,” he said.
Up until three months ago when he started living with his sister Nessman had been homeless for eight years. He had also been dealing with depression in part due to the death of his girlfriend.
“I decided to get right,” he said. “If you want something different in your life, you do something different and that’s where I am at today. I thank my sister for helping me out. She’s always been there for me.”
While the video of Nessman was widely viewed, Applebee’s General Manager Emily Canady said it had nothing to do with their decision.
“He’s a great guy and he was a great candidate, and he’ll definitely fit with us here in Team Victorville at Applebee’s,” she said.
Following his heroic actions, several fundraisers for Nessman popped up, but he wasn’t interested in any money. He’d rather work hard for his own money.
“I gotta come to work tomorrow and I can hardly wait to start doing what I do, you know what I mean? It’s going to be a good feeling,” he said.
Nessman started work as a dishwasher at Applebee’s days after his heroic save.
Ron deserves all the praise he’s received, and now he deserves even more for getting the job at Applebee’s!
