Heroes come in all shapes and sizes and are to be found in all walks of life.
We should all know this by now. Thanks to the drastic increase in connectivity since the dawn of the internet, we’re able to celebrate everyday heroes from all around the world when their good deeds are posted online.
Sadly, there are people in the world who are, for one reason or another, intent on doing bad things to innocent people. They’ve always existed, of course, but today it feels like their foul actions are given more attention than they otherwise would. Ironically this is due to the… yep, you guessed it: the internet.
As per reports, 53-year-old Daniel Biggs, known to the New York PD, was riding his bike one Wednesday evening back in 2020 when he took it upon himself to punch an unsuspecting 60-year-old woman in the face…
The motive behind this callous act is probably only known to Biggs himself, but I think we can all agree that cheap-shotting an elderly lady is a pretty despicable thing to do.
We’re not sure how Biggs expected the aftermath of his assault to play out, but it’s unlikely he believed things would go how they did. Otherwise, we probably wouldn’t have ever committed the crime in the first place.
Perhaps he thought he’d simply strike the lady and cycle away. Maybe he thought no one would care and he’d go about his day without a second thought. What Biggs didn’t know, however, was that he was on camera. Not only that, but he was also in front of a fire station – and the firefighters there there were watching him.
Video surveillance footage shows a woman walking down Hancock Street, Brooklyn, New York City one evening when Biggs swerved onto the sidewalk and punched her as he rode past.
His stunned victim fell backwards onto the ground, while Biggs cycled away, likely thinking he’d gotten away with things.
The attacker’s smugness must surely have turned to dismay, however, when he turned around to see four firefighters from the 214/Ladder 111 fire station giving chase.
As per reports, the quartet had witnessed Biggs’s assault and weren’t of a mind to let him ride off into the sunset. Instead, they hounded him down and eventually caught up to him, wrestling him off the bike and instigating a scuffle which saw one of them punched in the eye.
Ultimately, though, they were able to quickly overpower Biggs and force him the ground, where he remained until the police arrived to arrest him.
According to the Daily Mail, Biggs had 18 prior arrests.
A bystander named Twin Alzokari, who works at the nearby J&A Deli and Grocery, watched the four FDNY members jump into action following the incident.
“It’s bad. You can’t hit a woman. She’s very nice, the whole family. I grew up with them, and they very nice,” he said.
“I just see the guy running with the bike and I see the fire department came after him.”

I think these firefighters deserve our praise for their courageous efforts. If you do to, let us know in the comments.
