Earlier this year Costco made changes to its store policy so only those holding a membership could access its beloved food court.
Now the big-box retailer is implementing another change to its food court, and not everyone is pleased.
Despite the recent ban on non-members at Costco food courts, sales have not declined.
“Within our ancillary businesses, the food court had the strongest quarterly sales with the continued success of the chocolate chip cookie that was added to the food court this year,” the company’s CFO Gary Millerchip said during a third quarter earnings call.
With success on their mind, the company decided to implement a change to how customers order and pick up their food.
Rather than wait for an employee to call out the number of a finished order, customers are now being asked to order from a kiosk, show their receipt to an employee, and then wait for their order to be completed in the sequence it was submitted.
While this system, which has reportedly been rolled out at select locations seems fair, it can delay those who place a small order directly behind someone with a larger order since employees are no longer scrambling to complete the smaller orders in between the larger ones.
