In 2019, Heather Lundberg Green was looking for a way to support her son, Adrian Brown, who told her and his little brother Lucas that he was transgender in September 2018.

“The decision to come out was really scary,” Brown told NBC News. “The hardest part was coming out to myself, accepting myself and loving myself for who I am.”

Lundberg Green, of Louisville Kentucky, explains she was determined to support him and also celebrate his transition with the most extravagant display of affection.

“There was no rule book for what a mom is supposed to do when their child comes to them and says, ‘This is my truth,’” Lundberg Green told NBC affiliate WAVE 3.

She continues, “This was just uncharted territory. And as much as I was wanting to support him, I was also wanting him to know that it wasn’t just acceptance, or that I was going to put up with him – I was going to celebrate it.”

‘Let’s celebrate’

When Lundberg Green was pregnant, the woman shared that she didn’t a gender reveal party, a trend that only gained traction after 2010.

And despite Brown saying it was “a little late,” Lundberg Green insisted on celebrating her child with a sex reveal party on his 20th birthday.

On January 29, 2019, Lundberg Green shared a post on Facebook with several images, including one where Brown is swaddled like a newborn and another where he’s popping pink balloons, filled with blue confetti.

“When your child comes out as trans, the best thing to do is create a photoshoot to celebrate the fact that he silently and bravely stepped out of the race that he never wanted to be in, found his own lane and proceeded to win. HAPPY 20TH BIRTHDAY, Adrian!” Lundberg Green writes in the viral post that was liked by almost 40,000 people. “You are without a doubt the most fascinating human I know and I will always be your biggest fan! I love you, I honor who you are and I respect your courage to be unapologetically you!! Let’s celebrate!!”

The online community jumped into the comments section, some praising Lundberg Green for her support and others cheering on Brown as he journeys a whole new path.

One netizen shares, “My heart is full knowing that Adrian is loved and accepted by his awesome family. Adrian you are brave and genuine. I hope you inspire others to live their life. And then there’s this amazing photoshoot. Epic!!”

“I wish more parents were as supportive and open as you. The world would be a better place,” writes a second while a third adds, “Bright blessings on your journey to your authentic self.”

Speaking of the overwhelming support he received from “complete strangers,” Brown tells WAVE 3, “I thought this was sort of a struggle I had to do by myself. It’s really heartwarming to see there are so many people out there who share the same story that I do and are so supportive of a complete stranger. And it gives me a lot of hope.”

In 2021, Brown started his gender affirmation surgery.
