While some celebrities are attacked for wearing too little, Reese Witherspoon is being targeted by trolls for wearing a full coverage swimsuit.
The 48-year-old star was recently captured in images where she’s wearing a modest one-piece bathing suit that hugs her body and shows off her natural curves.
When the photos went viral, the internet was divided with hard to please critics saying “she looks old and a little flabby,” while others insisting the mother of three is “literally gorgeous.”

In May 2024, Reese Witherspoon’s daughter Ava Philippe clapped back at trolls, calling them “toxic” for body shaming.
“No one deserves to be picked apart for what they look like. You don’t always know what someone’s gone through or what they struggle with,” Ava, 24, says in the TikTok video where she’s seen applying lipstick to the tune of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl.” “But no matter who you are… Your beauty exceeds such superficial measures.”
“Pretty is as pretty does, babes…& body shaming is simply toxic behavior.”
Witherspoon commented on her daughter’s video with, “Yes to all of this,” showing her support to her eldest child.
Body positivity
Ava’s mom is a fierce advocate of body positivity and determined to “make women feel great” without talking “down to them.”
In 2018, The Morning Show star, 48, spoke with Glamour about her clothing line Draper James and its “inclusive sizing” to meet the needs of a diverse population.
“Nobody thinks about the emotional process that women go through when they try on clothes,” said the star of Sweet Home Alabama. “We don’t need to hide and diminish ourselves. Now there’s so much messaging in the world saying the opposite: Be proud of who you are. Unsubscribe from the notion that you’re not good enough.
She adds, “My body has birthed three children. I’ve had all those experiences, being an insecure teenage girl and growing into who I am as a woman.”
Compression swimwear
Not taking into consideration that she’s “birthed three children,” Witherspoon came under attack for some swimwear pictures, only one month after her daughter was targeted.
Taking a break from her hectic schedule, the star of Legally Blonde was captured in images while vacationing seaside in Portofino and San Fruttuoso, Italy.
The mother-of-three was spotted enjoying a day of boating with friends where she was seen wearing a full coverage one-piece swimsuit and matching dark sunglasses.
The sporty chic swimwear from Andie Swim – a favorite among celebrities like Mindy Kaling and Demi Moore – has a snap front neckline and is made with black flattering compression fabric.
The photos quickly went viral and triggered a storm of mixed reactions from the online community.
One critic asks, “what kind of BATHING SUIT IS THAT?” and another says, “She’s aging like 2% milk.”
A third, referring to the caption that suggests the actor has an “incredible figure,” shares, “‘Incredible figure’?’ She doesn’t look terrible for her age, but she looks old and a little flabby. Are standards so low we call this ‘incredible?’”
‘Gorgeous alert’
But not everyone attacked the star of Big Little Lies, some praised the star for looking “incredible.”
“Wow literally gorgeous alert” writes one cyber fan, while a second shares, “And she looks amazing in it of course!!”
A third writes, “An Icon wearing an Icon!!!!”
Other netizens were inspired by Witherspoon’s look and want the same swimwear.
