Michael Strahan is officially a grandfather!
The Good Morning America host made the announcement Sunday, September 22 during the Fox NFL Sunday show.
“Yes! I am a grandfather, everybody,” Strahan, the former defensive end for the New York Giants, said after some prompting from fellow co-host Howie Long.
Strahan revealed that his eldest daughter, Tanita, 32, who he shares with his first ex-wife, Wanda Hutchins, recently gave birth to a baby boy.
While he didn’t provide many details beyond letting his co-hosts and audience know that mother and baby were doing “fantastic,” Strahan did announce the boy’s name. “Onyx is his name—that means ‘black,’” he said.
“It’s really special, because, you know, I know you guys have gone through this,” the father of four said, “and now I’m just happy to be able to join you in that club.”
The news of a baby comes after many months of hardship for the Strahan family.
At the end of 2023, the GMA host’s daughter Isabella Strahan, 19, was diagnosed with brain cancer after she began experiencing headaches at the start of her freshman year of college.
Isabella underwent emergency surgery the day before her 19th birthday, followed by rehab and several rounds of radiation and chemotherapy.
In July 2024, Isbella announced she was cancer-free.
“Great scans, everything was clear. Cancer-free,” the teen said, sharing that she wouldn’t have another doctor appointment until October.
Congratulations to the Strahan family on their newest addition! Please join me in wishing them all the best.
