A coroner has shed light on details relating to skydiver Jade Damarell, who fell to death earlier this year.
The 32-year-old marketing manager was considered a “very experienced” skydiver prior to her death on April 27. She had over 500 successful jumps and the sport was one of her greatest passions.
Tragically, however, Damarell died after crashing near Fleming Field in County Durham, United Kingdom on April 27, 2025.
Just under a month after her death, on May 22, an inquest-based hearing took place, where findings from a post-mortem revealed that Jade had died as a result of “blunt trauma”.
Coroner Jeremy Chipperfield, with the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, UK, said at the hearing that there was no reason to believe she had suffered equipment failure.
Earlier this month, coroner Leslie Hamilton confirmed that Damarell’s death had officially been ruled a suicide.

As per The Guardian, Hamilton also summarized a note received from Damarell’s partner (and fellow skydiver) that outlined how the couple had “ended their relationship the night before.”
One day prior to her death, Damarell had completed six successful sky dives. Yet the inquest heard how the marketing manager did not deploy her main parachute on the fateful jump that claimed her life. She had reportedly also switched off the device that would have enabled her parachute to open automatically upon reaching a certain altitude and speed.
Damarell also opted not to wear the the camera she usually had for jumps on her final dive.
Heartbreakingly, the 32-year-old left behind instructions on her phone lock screen regarding how to gain entry to the device after her passing. On her phone was a note addressing her family.

In her final message, she “apologized and thanked them for their support” whie providing details about her finances.
In the wake of her death, a Sky-High Skydiving spokesperson said: “It is with great sadness that we confirm a tragic incident took place involving a valued member of our community.
“This heartbreaking news has deeply affected all who knew her, and our thoughts are with her family and friends as they face this unimaginable loss. At this incredibly difficult time, we ask for privacy and compassion for those grieving.”
Rest in peace, Jade Damarell
