Teen who was only survivor of murder-suicide dies aged 19

A teenager who was the sole survivor in the murder-suicide of his immediate family in 2024 has passed away suddenly at the age of 19.

Then-17-year-old Sha Reh was discovered suffering from a gunshot wound inside his home in West Valley City, Utah by a family member in December 2024.

Police confirmed that they later found five other family members deceased inside the property. Authorities identified them as Sha’s mother Bu Meh, 38, and his siblings — sisters Kristina Ree, 8, and Nyay Meh, 2, and brother Boe Reh, 11.

Following the harrowing events, it was reported that Sha’s father, Dae Reh, 42, had shot dead his wife and children before taking his own life.

Sha was the only survivor of the incident. The teenager, shot in the head, lost his vision, but otherwise made a recovery.

Via a GoFundMe page established to help pay for funeral costs, his extended family sadly confirmed that Sha had died this past weekend.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Sha Reh. He passed away unexpectedly in the home of his aunt and uncle on Sunday, January 11, 2026,” the statement on the page reads.

“Sha Reh lost his mother, father, two sisters, and brother in a tragic event that was widely reported in the news media in December of 2024. Sha Reh was also a victim of the shooting but miraculously survived his parents and siblings.

“Despite losing his vision in both eyes, and over the course of the past 13 months, Sha Reh overcame numerous obstacles on his pathway to healing.

“He successfully enrolled in the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind in January of 2025, where he learned to communicate in Braille and live independently.”
