26-year-old Australian actress Milly Alcock recently made headlines over comments about “Christian dads,” is now facing a wave of online criticism focused on her appearance. The backlash intensified after former Superman actor Dean Cain appeared to endorse a viral meme mocking the actress.
Cain, 59, famously portrayed Clark Kent in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, which aired from 1993 to 1997. He came under fire after reacting to an X post that compared Alcock to Cha-Ka, the ape-like humanoid character from the 1970s TV series Land of the Lost.
The post originally focused on a detail in a Supergirl poster and sparked debate among fans about how the heroine’s ears could have been pierced. However, one user shifted the conversation by ridiculing Alcock’s appearance, asking, “And why does she look like this guy?”
The meme quickly went viral, racking up more than one million views. Cain responded with a brief comment admitting he found the comparison amusing.
“Dang it… I laughed,” he wrote.
His response immediately triggered backlash from DC fans, with many accusing the actor of participating in appearance-based bullying.
“This is why no one includes you when we talk about past Supermen. You ain’t him” one person wrote.
Another criticized Cain, writing, “I can’t believe I grew up watching this guy play Superman. To see him serve and feed on Internet hate towards another person especially a young woman makes me really sad.”
Despite the criticism, Cain appeared unbothered and indicated he had little interest in what detractors had to say.
The latest controversy comes after Cain previously took issue with comments Alcock made during a recent interview with Variety. The actress discussed the online criticism she had received since being cast as Supergirl, saying many of the attacks came from anonymous accounts or men who described themselves as “Christian” fathers.
Cain later addressed those remarks during an appearance on The Benny Show podcast, where he said he had no interest in learning Alcock’s name “as a Christian dad” and argued that alienating a portion of the fanbase was not a smart move.
“I didn’t even know her name…I really have no desire to know her name as a Christian dad,” he said.
Some critics have since pointed to the film’s projected box-office debut, estimated at around $55 million, as evidence that the controversy may have hurt audience enthusiasm. Industry analysts, however, have described those projections as relatively modest compared with the film’s reported $245 million production and marketing costs.
Supergirl is currently scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
