Jon Bernthal says he’s ‘in awe’ of Tom Holland after two back-to-back movies together.
Jon Bernthal has opened up about reuniting with his longtime friend Tom Holland for two films this summer.
Speaking on Today and to People magazine, Bernthal, 49, reflected on working alongside Holland, 30, on both The Odyssey and the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, describing the experience as one of the highlights of his year.
“To now walk on to this set and see all that he’s accomplished and he still leads with grace, he’s still a family-first guy,” Bernthal said.
“He’s in love.”
A friendship that goes back over a decade
Bernthal revealed that he has known Holland since the Spider-Man star was just 17 years old. The two actually filmed their audition tapes for The Punisher and Spider-Man together while in Ireland, and went on to first appear onscreen together in the 2017 historical action film Pilgrimage.
“I’ve known him since he was 17,” Bernthal said.
“He’s as good a man as he is an actor. I’m just so in awe of him and proud of him, and I love seeing the man that he’s become.”
Bernthal’s comment about Holland being “in love” comes after the actor confirmed in June that he had married his co-star Zendaya, following months of speculation.
All three appear together in The Odyssey, now in theaters, with Bernthal playing Menelaus, Holland playing Telemachus and Zendaya playing Athena.
Wife not impressed with Bernthal’s makeover
He also shared something about his own relationship.
For his role in The Odyssey, Bernthal shaved his head and grew out a substantial beard. His wife Erin Angle was not impressed.
“Not a fan of the beard at all,” Bernthal said.
“That was a big beard too. No bueno in my home.”
