Florida fan who went viral at Ole Miss college football game answers the one question she keeps getting

Five seconds on camera in “The Swamp” turned a University of Florida freshman into one of the most popular college students in America – and sparked one very personal question from her new admirers.

When the Florida Gators, ranked No. 21 in the country, welcomed No. 4-ranked Ole Miss to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Sept. 26, all eyes were supposed to be on the field.

But as the Gators handed the previously undefeated Rebels their first loss of the season with a 52-28 victory in front of more than 90,000 fans in Gainesville, a brief camera shot from the stands gave football fans something else to talk about.

‘Cameraman caught gooning’

During the broadcast, cameras landed on a blonde Gators fan, wearing a revealing black outfit and cheering from the crowd.

“CBS cameraman caught gooning,” College Sports Only shared on X, alongside the clip that showed the fan in the bleachers.

The shot lasted only seconds, but clips of the moment quickly spread across social media as viewers tried to figure out who she was.

The mystery fan was soon identified as Peyton Blomquist, an 18-year-old student at the University of Florida who had gone to the stadium to watch a football game and left with tens of thousands of strangers suddenly knowing her face.

‘Work the cut’

Rather than hide from her unexpected moment in the spotlight, Blomquist leaned into it.

She shared photos from the game on Instagram, including a screenshot of the shot that had sent the internet into a frenzy, and captioned the post, “Work the cut.”

The phrase already had meaning for Gators fans.

According to ESPN, Florida head coach Jon Sumrall drew inspiration for “Work the Cut” from Buster Douglas’ stunning 1990 victory over Mike Tyson, using the famous upset to teach his players about exploiting an opponent’s weakness.

Tyson entered the fight undefeated, but Douglas repeatedly targeted his left eye until it was swollen and bleeding, eventually delivering a 10th-round knockout. Sumrall wanted his players to take a similar approach on the football field – find the weakness and keep going after it.

But Blomquist was soon working more than the cut as her unexpected moment in the stands sent her social media following soaring.

Before her five seconds of fame in the “Swamp,” Fox News reports she reportedly had fewer than 10,000 Instagram followers. Within days, that number had climbed beyond 54,000 as curious football fans poured onto her page.

Who is Peyton Blomquist?

The teenager behind the viral clip is originally from the Orlando area and is studying nutritional science on a pre-med track while also belonging to the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.

Long before the college freshman became an internet sensation, Blomquist had already built an impressive academic record.

She graduated from Lake Mary High School as salutatorian and was involved in several science and academic organizations, including serving as president of the Biology and Medicine Club and helping lead ChemClub.

She also has an athletic background, having played volleyball on a team that finished third at the AAU National Championships in 2019.

None of that, however, answered the question some of her rapidly growing number of followers apparently considered much more urgent.

Relationship status

As comments flooded the post, plenty of her new admirers were less interested in football than finding out whether Blomquist was available, with some joking about submitting applications, offering to do her laundry and even claiming members of the Gators were curious about her relationship status.

Blomquist soon gave them an answer.

“Actually, I’m in the market for a husband, so maybe not,” she replied.
